Land Rover Discovery

My brother has just bought an 03 plate diesel automatic.

Very nice.Green, cream leather,Harmon Kardon (or whatever) sound system. All the other kit.Lovely in fact.

It put me off 4x4's for life ! However great they are it felt like I was bringing an oil tanker into dock.75 turns of the wheel to turn(felt like it!) incredibly wallowy ride....felt like I was driving something with huge balloon tyres bouncing all over the road .Probably could just about accelerate a slow pedestrian, but not much else :D

I'm sure you get used to them and they look good on your drive.Just found it a scary and unsafe driving experience.Obviously didn't slate it.Its his pride and joy and I am very pleased for him.

Not for me though.Best kept in a field I think where it would be great I'm sure :)

:D True

A totally over-rated car IMHO.

2 good buddies have one each, and they drive like 1950's tractor's on which they're based.

They may be good for serious off-road, but then a rowing boat is ideal for pottering around a river/harbour....but you wouldnt want to pay extortionate prices for one to try on the road would you.

I know what you mean. My dad is a dairy farmer and has always owned 'proper' 4x4's (not soft roaders or x5's etc). He currently has an Isuzu. They can't compare to cars on the road and whenever i go in it now (as a passenger) i get out feeling sea sick :(

On the motorway they are meant to feel safe (due to size etc) but on the contray the height makes me uneasy. Its that feeling that if it were to go sideways it would roll rather than skid. Cars just feel more planted.

strange

dont have a problem with my Discovery (had it for 4 years before a new job required me to get a smaller car, reason for a smaller car? to it will fit in the car park, the disco was too tall to fit)

in fact still gotthe disco, great fun to drive, great visablity, not as fast or as nippy as the Furby but for road presents just being THERE, its great

oh

its also been lifted by 2 inchs, has heavy duty side sills, winch bumper, snorkle, reinforced rear bumper and is read for off road use, but is equally happy at 70mph on the motorway

I drove a Range Rover on the M20 once, felt AWFUL with the air suspension trying to keep it pinned down butmaking it feel like a cork in a swell, and not much better round town...
