Replaced Gearbox oil - Very pleased with results

Featured Replies

Hi folks, been wanting to replace my gearbox oil ever since i refilled few years ago with some Fuch's Titan Gear Syn 75w-90.

I found in my car and based on my driving conditions the Titan stuff to cause notchy gear changes especially changing down the box.(even after a gear linkage adjustment)

In fact the std VAG gear oil is better and no reason why folks should not use std stuff. i however wanted to try something else and as the job of replace oil is simple thought what the heck.

So went for Redline MT-90 Fully Synthetic 75W90 Gearbox Oil after lot's of recommendations and good reviews

here is some info on it:

http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=46

i really like the idea of eliminating notchy shifting

All I can say is fantastic stuff, The gear change smoothness was felt immediately and really nice even changing down the gearbox. I really recommend this stuff.

Also just done a How to guide on Gearbox oil change if folks needs to use it in the technical section.

hope this helps...

Nice. I changed mine about 115k ago with some Fuch's Titan Gear Syn stuff (can't remember the numbers off hand), and it seemed to improve things a bit, but now things are a bit notchy again, along with sometimes a resistance to change into 5th while doing an overtake (ie. at speed). General pottering about it changes into 5th ok.

I don't know what it is about the aftermarket gearbox oils, but if you don't replace them every 50k miles or so, the box starts to go notchy again.

When you think about it, the VAG stuff is amazing value.

This is the great thing about this forum! All of you guys who know lots and are keen to get messy with the car write up these amazing guides!

That is what happened to mine buddy with the same stuff, although you might want to check your gear linkage if you have not done a reset for a while. Normally when linkage goes out it effects 1st, 3rd and 5th selection.

Great how to here:
