squeak when accelerating

Featured Replies

Hi i had my car put into skoda last week for new front tyres and four wheel alignment. Now a few days later im getting a squeak from the nsf when im accelerating and so far its done it at no other time. I have had the farb and droplinks replaced recently also. If i bounce the car up and down it doesnt make any noises and the squeak almost seems to be a rotational based noise. It squeaks a few of times then seems to stop until i accelerate again mainly from lower speeds. any ideas? thanks.

Top mount bearing possibly.

Thats a possibility as its likely they may of touched it to do the alignment. But how that cause a squeak when going in a straight line? Thanks

Or it might be your wallet objecting to the extra fuel you are burning

Should not go anywhere rear top mount to do alignment buddy. I would suggest coincidental. Not to say it is not top mount though. The bearing can start to cease causing the mount to pull slightly or may even be a farb bush run dry of grease.

Sent from my Galaxy S3.

My dads old peugeot did the same thing after he had tyres and tracking done. He got the tracking rechecked elsewhere and it was a mile out.

Im inclined to trust what skoda did with the tracking but youve got me wandering if the independant garage that did the farb bushes have made a short cut as it doesnt like they did a good job cleaning up the bar beforehand and it certainly looks devoid of any grease around the bush. Thanks

Since driving the car again im not even sure its supension related it souns more transmission related and begining to suspect a cv joint boot but until i can jack it up and have a look i cant tell id say it almost engine bay sourced going to get skoda have a look next week

Jacked the car up last night on the nsf where i thinl the sound is coming from and couldnt find any play anywhere. All the cv joints look fine the nsf damper isnt weeping the brakes seemed fine couldnt see any debris in them but the only think that i did notice but im not sure is normal is that when the car was jacked up the strut top plates were sat completely down on tje turret yet when the car is sat on its wheels thete is a 15-20mm gapbetween the turret and the plate is this normal. Does that leave only the wheel bearing as suspect but then surely wouldnt it squeal rather than squeak all the time too.

Yeah the gap in the plate is normal as it all gets centralised with the weight on it. Is this noise rotational or like a squeaky bush?

I tried getting a video to see if i could show it but all it picked up was engine noise but its sounds as if its something rotational based as the squeak gets progressively louder then quieter and repeats itself a few times then stops. The squeak seems quite slow for the speed of the wheels as well. In other words it squeaks at the same rate regrdless of speed and acceleration the only difference being is the volume gets louder at higher speed. Sorry if its a rubbish description. Im stumped?

Seriously....Are all independent garages staffed by monkeys..... Took the car to Alex Lawrie skoda to see if they could find the source of the squeak and they said its more than likely the anti roll bar bushes which I had said independent garage replace along with the drop links. On closer inspection not only did they damage the under seal on the car when they first did the job but they fitted the anti-roll bar bushes straight onto the bar and pushed the plastic collar out of the way and I don't think they actually replaced the drop links either. Brought it back into the garage so they could have a look.....and they did sweet FA and began by condesending to me about the jacking points?? Then proceeded to tell me that the bushes were the right size and fitted correctly. Everything I said about the bush supposed to being fitted around the collar went in one ear out of the other.....where do i stand should i ask for my money back?

i would be making a complaint to the service manager followed by one to skoda uk for the damage...

sorry i should clarify alex lawrie is a main dealer and they are not at fault. they so far have been very good. the independant garage is called dudlow motors in childwall that is at fault.

ah, make a complaint with them then trading standards perhaps?
