Economy On The Octy Vrs?

Featured Replies

What kind of average/best/worst mpg figures are people getting from the Octy vRS?

Anyone with a Jabbabchip - what difference did this make to the figures?

Also does anyone know what the gearing is in 5th (mph/1000rpm?)

Thanks.

Gearing is 24(.3?)mph /1000rpm

Can't speak for the vRS'ers but I've averaged 29.4 mpg in 8000 Jabba 4x4 miles which will be worse than they can manage. This is on full tanks measured from fuel put in rather than the trip computer. Best full tank 35, worst 25.

Well..

Have been using Optimax for the last 22K but just switched to NUL to see if theres actually a difference..

Usual commute 35 miles - mainly Mway with some A and B roads gives me around 37mpg at 80ish and 42+ mpg at 70ish crusing speed. Tanking it around usually gives 32ish mpg and occasionally lower. Run from Mansfield to the Wirral fully loaded a couple of weeks ago via the peak district and motorway at a decent pace gave me 34mpg average.. big thumbs up. Average over last 3000 miles was around 35mpg

Not noticing a huge difference with NUL in economy - but difficult to say really as Ive not fully tested it yet. If its > 3mpg average difference then Ill go back to Optimax. Havent noticed a big difference in power or feel yet either surprisingly..

Paul..

42mpg with Jabba chip.

errr... I usually get about 230-250 miles range on a full tank. Now i've been Jabba'd my fuel economy has actually gone UP believe it or not - and now (when i'm not tw@tting it everywhere and using motorways) I can get nearer 280-290.

Still never hit the magic 300 miles on a tank :(

Rumour has it than 1 particular owner on this board (no names mentioned SkodiRS ;) ) can see over 425 miles on a tank!!!

I manage around 300 to 320 miles between fill up's which is from full to when the light comes on.

It usually takes

Mine will take

Since my Jabba Remap I have covered 4,000 Miles at an overall average of 35.5 MPG, Including a fair amount of Tw**ing (to quote another member)

No different to what I was getting before !!

Thanks folks, so we are looking at something in the region of 30-35mpg.

Gearing is better than i thought it would be in 5th.

hmmmm....

You guys with obscenely high MPG figures - ie 40+mpg - do you have cruise control for use on the motorway?

Even if I sit at 70-75 and simply 'feather' the throttle to keep going ie no foot flat down - the best I have ever seen is 37mpg?

Obviously driving hard gives lower figures - in mine around 19-22 mpg... In any gear if I put the computer to show realtime MPG and put my foot flat down - it goes down to 5 or just below mpg.....

Could there be something wrong with my Octy?

It depends if you mean for a FULL tank average or on the fly from the trip computer ? It really does make a difference if the fuel consumption is worked out over a 'full-empty-filled again' cycle from the litres added and total mileage covered.

My combination is 4x4, Jabba, no cruise, but it is easy at 70/75 to see an indicated 37+ mpg and 43 at 60-65. As the 4x4 has extra weight /drag/transmission losses/lower gearing, you should be able to see better than these on the trip computer.

On saying all of this, for the FULL tank MPG I'm delighted that I've averaged almost 30mpg. The average in my Impreza for the same driving style was 24mpg. Puts it into perspective.

4x4, 42.8.... way over 400 a tank, but then I have a larger tank than the RS boys n girls.

"then I have a larger tank than the RS boys n girls."

now stop that we dont want any fights or bad feeling? unless you want to step outside...punk... well do ya punk?:D

my avg is 22-23 but i only do 2-3 miles a day to work.. on longer runs is 32-33

My overall average is 30.3.

Long motorway trips with the cruise set at 3000 rpm I get 40ish

Normal cross country driving, I get about 32

Making progress croos country about 27-30

UK tracks about 10-12

Ring about 8 :D

Just curious really at the moment..

;)

The way I look at the Octavia / VAG 1.8T engine is that it strikes the best balance between power (esp. modded) and fuel economy of any equivalent petrol engine. The Impreza was faster from rest with similar power but used 25% more fuel in my hands. The Legacy 2.5 I also had, with far less power really struggled to get above 30mpg on a run. I know that 35 is possible with the Octavia 4x4 driving sensibly rather than slowly !

I still rate the Fabia TDi though - a cracking small car. What is your typical MPG range now by the way ?

My guesses - 35 mpg when absolutely thrashed; 50 typical and 60 on a sensible 75mph long run ?

Bet I could get the Fabia TDI below 20 :D

I bet you could 'just' get it to 20mpg.

The worst (best ?!) I could get out my TDi Quattro was 26mpg which actually beat the 'best' in my last Impreza for quite a while ! It was on track though, mostly annoying a Z3 driver who could not get past until the straight ;)

Average is starting to creep up now at over 50mpg and I dont hang around. Never get less than 45mpg now (average)

You could get about 60 if you took it really easy, but theres no point as you can drive it as hard as you want and still get over 45mpg (obviously not for very short town runs)

I dont think i'll let TaviaRS borrow mine to prove otherwise ;)

The big question is if I did ever change to a petrol turbo, would the fact that i used to drive something that gave 50mpg annoy me?

Just seen a nice unregistered Octavia Elegance TDi at a local dealer for

My average (vRS) so far is 30.2 mpg, over 6,500 miles since I got the car new. Best run - 36 mpg

Worst run - 18 mpg

Would like to get my average up to nearer 33, that would be a start. Should improve once the roadworks on the M74 are finished and I can get off the back roads, and I'll be getting cruise control done soon to counter-act my heavy right foot ! :)

Before remap I would regularly see over 400 miles before the "beep"...usually 425 miles. This is mainly A and B roads plus a couple of motorway journeys.

Brimming I used to get 100 miles before even moving off the first petrol level indicator.

However since the remap I've been enjoying it too much and the most I've seen from a tank is 340 miles.

Once I've "calmed down" a bit I reckon I'll be back to 400+ miles again.;)

Cheers.

Adrian.

:drive1: Well I reckon that me and Tavia RS probably do some of the highest mileage on Briskoda.

My Octy is returning a pretty regular average of 39.9mpg. Thta by the way is a combination of long motorway driving and some in town driving.

The best I have achieved on a long motorway run is 44.1 Mpg. Now I'm quite happy with that. Worst I have ever got when caning the nuts off it is 31.0 mpg.

I am quite frankly amazed at how good the consumption is considering that I know people with diesels who are getting just higher than mine, which is impressive for us not for them.

Interesting that Des seems to be getting such great results with the jabba remap. That's justification enough for having it done, there may be other reasons........................:D
