if the cans only got 15mm inlets there gonna restrict it anyway even if you have a 19mm hose leading to it. . Surely? :-/

its just all confusing me people saying its bad . . N others saying they run 15mm fine with no probs.

ive been running mine with 15mm inlets for over a week now and no problems so far, think its just gets in your head that something will happen but I've ordered some 19mm inlets just to be safe.

i can't imagine it making a huge difference to be honest or surely it would just blow the pipe off? Either way ill go to a fittings shop tomorrow maybe find something from a kitchen or plumbing shop,

Just run the pipe to atmosphere, that's what trucks and buses do.

Just vent to atmosphere, cheaper, less mess and leaves the engine bay tidy. I binned mines, my hose exits behind the NSF console bush.

so you posted that link to the catch can when basically

Your saying theres no need in the catch can ? Lol... The reason I've put the catch can on us because I'm on track next weekend and if they see a pipe out the bottom of my car with oil coming out there going to black flag me lol.

And theres the risk of oil going on the road.. think! Of the motorbikes ;)

Tom did u get the 19mm adapters?

You wana see my drive from straight venting. Dont think it will go on the road as much but its a heck of a lot on the drive when it obviously cools and condenses back to liquid.

I only put up the Allard link to help out, I've supplied fittings for 2 Briskoda members catch tanks. I ran one for a while but went for the simpler option, I've worked on HGV's for over 20 years and they vent to atmosphere.

What kind of system do they use? Would like to see sum pics..

Thought about venting but iv seen how much crap comes out.. im guessing if HGVs are designed to vent then they will have a system that vents without causing oil to go on the road?.. surely its not just an pipe like the elephant mod?

You'd be surprised, as Tom said, a catch can would be better for track day use but I agree with Big Jase that using at least 19mm fittings is best to avoid pressure build up. The pipe I run to atmosphere is 22mm internal diameter and there's been no oil left on my driveway.

I vent mine to atmosphere and there is one drop of oil that appears on the road overnght so I dont thnk it is too much to be concerned about

Surely the oil will come out when driving? So wont be on the drive where its parked up/ running idle..

Wont it be coming out when driving down the road?.. would like to know where the pipe is on a HGV to see how they avoid oil going on the road..

Any pics or details of the setup on a HGV kenny?

yes mate they've been ordered in should be here Monday, I'm pretty sure he said they were some type of fuel line fitting, will keep you posted.

What's the diameter of the screw-in part of the actual catch can because i'm sure it's smaller than 15mm, let alone 19mm??

Here's a Volvo FH truck engine, it's crankcase vent pipe goes from the rocker cover to atmosphere. If you get a chance to look at one its NSF axle will be oily as it's below the pipe.

Yes what your saying about ventin to atmospher is all good but is illegal at the same time on cars. And if cort u can be quite badly fined.

Catch cans are a hot miss question my slef am running a oil catch can 19mm pipes to can them a made up mesh insides so catchable the oil droplets them 19mm pipe back to the origanl intake. People say its a silly to run it back but it does the job plus it's still running how the engine was designed to just with out the oil returning to the engine

Got to say I like your post I work for volvo trucks as a machanic and this is a first seeing a pic on the fh engines being used as an example on a forum hahhaha

Hi tommccabeVRS,

I have my catch can where yours is but lower so that the engine cover stays on and it took more than half an hour to fit. I can see the sight tube and reach the drain screw from its position. I have changed one fitting for 3/4 - 19m/m and run the pipe from the 16m/m fitting to a small chrome filter.
