Oil catch Can Fitted.

Featured Replies

Makes me hard to believe that there could be so much cylinder blow by gases...

Turbo diesels are the absolute worst for blow-by, very high cylinder pressures at much lower RPM than petrol engines. Many diesel engines use three compression rings as well as an oil scraper to try and reduce blow-by.

It's also the reason diesel engine oil is so sophisticated, it has to cope with a lot of contamination from blow-by.

i can't imagine it making a huge difference to be honest or surely it would just blow the pipe off? Either way ill go to a fittings shop tomorrow maybe find something from a kitchen or plumbing shop,

Just run the pipe to atmosphere, that's what trucks and buses do.

Does 25mm hose clamp down nicely or is it too big?

A reduction area only means a reduction in flow if the velocity is fixed. The actual vent is described as a regurgitator valve and I wouldn't be surprised to find a constriction inside it which may have far more effect. Also my old injection pump Octavia had a vent which was about 19mm diameter whereas my new 2.0 pd Octavia has a vent which is more like 25mm, I doubt the volumes of gas coming from CCTV are much different.

Also we need to consider whether the pressure in the inlet is significantly different from atmospheric pressure as again this could make a far bigger difference.

Well I can't seem to find any 19mm outlets anywhere ! So next time I'm on the rolling road ill compare the figures from when I just had the 19mm elephant mod to now when I have the catch can with 15mm outlets.

Theres 19mm

Not cheap but the only proper one

Also no restricion in oem ccv pipe, all im saying is skoda designed it at 19mm for a reason, if it was ment to be 15mm it would have been 15mm

@tommccabevRS

Looking at your engine bay, what are you using instead of a pd160 intake, got any links?

Cheers!

Hi,

I have fitted the square Catch Tank from Toyosports(UK) using the 15m/m fittings mounted at the front next to the Radiator. But instead of running the second pipe to the engine I have used about 30ctms of pipe then finished with a mini air filter. This seems to work fine as I am not going to the engine.

I'm going to be ordering a small oil filter this week once I've got the 19mm outlets

That sounds exactly how i've got mine.

So it doesnt have to be 19mm tank inlets then. . !?! :-$ . . Coz people are using 15mm inlets with no trouble. .

Im asking because I bought a catch can about a day before discovering this thread. . N dont wanna fit it n bugger my engine up. . Ive got 16mm I.d silicone hose,15mm inlets to the can and a 15mm I.d breather filter.

Need a 19mm hose don't you?

Need a 19mm hose don't you?

if the cans only got 15mm inlets there gonna restrict it anyway even if you have a 19mm hose leading to it. . Surely? :-/

its just all confusing me people saying its bad . . N others saying they run 15mm fine with no probs.

I mean you'll need at least an 19mm hose to attach to the actual ccv. Can clamp a 19mm hose down over a 15mm inlet but might struggle to get a 15mm hose over a 19mm ccv outlet
