Engine Noise

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I got my red 5 door citigo S model last Sunday. I have noticed whenever I use the throttle the engine makes a noise similar to running a pencil along cardboard (hope that explains it well enough) I am just wondering whether anyone else has this experience?

Thanks.

It's a tough one to call without actually hearing it (post a clip on you tube?). I picked up mine yesterday and I have noticed that at low revs on a high gear you can hear the gears in the gearbox 'chattering'. It is not a design flaw, just the frequency of resonance at which it is most obvious. As mine is the ASG gearbox it puts itself in fifth gear at 32mph on flat roads, which is little over idle speed on the rev counter (and too low in my opinion) which is when you hear it most. If I force it into 4th gear it quietens down.

Don't worry, my Citigo has what appears to me to be induction noise at certain revs and loads, the pencil/corrugated cardboard is a good description. There is slight transmission noise as well. I would put it down to lack of sound deadening material on the bulkhead.

It does not worry me hope it won't worry you also. Enjoy your car, the Citigo is a belter!

Thank you guys.

Tsi Fly - the noise is constant at whatever revs the car is at, whenever my foot is on the accelerator it sounds like that. I guess I can get used to it!

Try holding your hand on the radio/heater controls and see if they are rattling??

Thank you guys.

There is an uneven, rorty rippines to a 3 cyl engine that can come as a shock if you have not come across this engine configuration befor. If you have a concern about a noise check with your dealer but I'm sure it will be fine.
