Diesel - anything I need to know?

Featured Replies

After driving for 25 years I've never had a diesel engine - and I'm going to be soon in receipt of the 2.0TDI Octavia Elegance.

Is there anything I need to be aware of apart from picking the black pump instead of the green one at the petrol, ahem, diesel station (must get that in my head!) ;)

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks

You need to be aware that the torque will always make the drive so much better!

Enjoy your new car.

The car will pull very low down the revs, you will need to get used to that. It will be colder longer in winter and a pain to defrost. However, It will not really care if you fill it with people. If you only use it for short journeys it will die as the DPF will soon clog.

Torque so don't over rev, ride the torque I love reving but also get "the torque curve" diesel approach

Petrol engines like revs ,diesel it's learning where the umph is and not over reving as your feel like you lost power

If you get winter pack you won't worry about demisting lol

Hope you enjoy the devil fuelled car lol

Just out of interest, what exactly does the winter pack consist of, please?

Heated windscreen (I specced it mainly for that) heated washer nozzles and heated front seats

Not in my experience it won't.

Thanks so far guys..much appreciated...

I was reading about the DPF and how it cleans itself....I only do approx 10 mile return journey to work every day but will be getting plenty of trips out during the weekend and even the working day to a degree....so hopefully that's enough with a bit of A road, M-way driving to clean it?

Should be fine, then.

Yes, should be fine with that usage.

Enjoy your new car!!

Buy a sticker or similar saying DIESEL for your fuel cap ,or any other means to prevent missfuelling.

We've all done it...

Was certainly thinking of doing something like this...just to be safe....good tip...

The key points for diesel ownership.

Keep your wits about you as there is a tendency to doze off while driving a diesel.

Remember to mention your MPG and the vast amount of Torks at every opportunity in a conversation.

He he he, quality.

:)

You will find that it is very easy to drive at low revs. Even my 1.6 diesel will pull top gear at 1500 revs
