Featured Replies

Hi I would like to get some information about a petrol 2010 1.8 TSI S Octavia ?

good and bad points ?

good engine ? known problems etc etc ?

would you recommend this car ?

many thanks.

S spec is a bit basic but that engines good. Didnt realise they did the 1.8 in S spec?

Yes. :)

Super engine - can poodle along or take off like a rocket

Engine is fantastic. Whisper quiet with more than enough power for safe overtakes. Keep an eye on the speedo cos 3 figures come up frighteningly quickly.

Economy is ok. Mine averages 36ish with low 40's at motorway cruising and occasional 50 on gentle A road cruises.

Road tax is £145 or 175 can't remember off hand. [ EDIT - just checked -it is £175]

In summary it is the best engine I ever had!

Great engine and a really unassuming car, get an elegance or L&K

there are some reports of heavy oil consumption, but generally the unit is trouble free

The 1.8 TSI is an incredibly cheap car for what it offers ... you have to spend a lot more to get the same all round package

I fitted a Blue fin remap and she is utterly devastating at overtaking almost anything when you poke it in third gear...

Good choice but not an S or lower get the one with all the toys!

what extra toys do you get above the S ?

Not 100% you have to check... stuff like alloys front fogs , multi function steering wheel, cruise, climatronic headlamp washers, leather on the L&K, leather steering rim better stereo... possibly for the same price and an S

In the 2010 Elegance over the S off the top of my head:

Front fogs, headlamp washers, auto-dimming mirror, rain sensing wipers, touch screen Bolero stereo, extra speakers, leather steering wheel, dual zone climate control, centre armrest and storage compartment, glasses storage, trip computer, remote control central locking, rear electrric windows, alloy wheels, height adjustable driver and passenger seat, rear parking sensors, illuminated air conditioned glovebox, rear passenger fresh air vents, central arm-rest in rear,

The L&K adds:

Xenon headlights, leather upholstery, electric adjusting seats, multi-function steering wheel, maxidot, auto dimming/dipping wing mirrors,

I love my armrest

Some great memories on here about what facilities on Elegance and L&K. I wish I had as good a recall as you guys.

I do have a brochure however for 2010 to 2012 so if Hamster88 finds a car he wants with a trim level, repost and I'll list the full brochure spec for him.

Recommend the engine big time if it is fitted with the later engine and that is compared to the 2 litre TSI which it share the same format ie EA888. Not sure if they were all EA888s then as the previous engine, the EA113 is not quite as good in a few areas. Early engines ahve belt driven cams, later has chain ie less running cost.

When buying second hand I would go for the top spec L&K.

Engine/car does 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds and low 40 mpg.

I find it quite hard to adapt to the 2 litre TSI VRS as the red line is 500 rpm lower in the VRS and therefore getting the gear change perfect is more difficult.

The 1.8 TSI does about 5 mpg better, especially in DSG form giving the car great range ie about 500 miles if you do longer rather than town driving.

Wish I had taken extended warranty and kept it really.

Chips out to 215hp or so really easily as it is so understressed.
