Octavia vRS SMIC on a Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Ok,

I am not sure I can afford a FMIC yet for my car :( however on a positive note I have been informed that the OEM SMIC on an Octavia vRS is larger than the OEM one on the Fabia vRS, correct?

If so i'm assuming most of the VAG range 1.8T engine's should have a similar SMIC as the Octavia vRS in which case if the above turns out to be true I will buy a second hand SMIC from a breakers and attempt to fit it to my Fabia vRS.

Is there anything I will need to know before attempting this (sorry if this sounds stupid but I really have no idea :o), does a diesel intercooler work differently to a petrol intercooler and should the existing pipework connect up to the new SMIC the same?

Any help if anyone knows is appreciated.

Sounds a bit pointless to me TBH, I would just save up and get the FMIC, since it appears to me thats what you really want....

:iagree: Although I can't comment on the Octy vRS IC, I am sure its not worth the bother and probably will affect it v. little, get saving ;)

I am quite happy to remove the OEM intercooler myself and fit a larger SMIC, I am aware it wont be as good as a full blown FMIC but at less than half the cost it has to be worth a go.

Here we go again.

Are you ever actually do any of these planned mods or just post a thread up about them?

If you want to fit an Octy SMIC then go for it and let us know the results.

Umm yes I have done quite a few of the mods I have "planned", to name a few which I have posted threads up about...

Cupra Intake, Pikey Mod 1/2, I did a quick review on the rear mudflaps, Cup Holder, Seat Sport Strut Brace, Jabba Remap, Green Panel filter, on order 312mm brakes.

Lummox, let me ask you a question. Do you ever get sick of criticising? prehaps you could bring something constructive to this conversation instead of knocking mine and others ideas, and next time I want your input, i'll ask ;).

easy there hellfire, lummox knows his stuff. he may have made a mistake about what you have or haven't done but give him a chance mate :)

Its not worth it....

the Octy smic IS bigger (its about an inch deeper = maybe 15% extra volume)

but the inlet and out pipes are in a different locations, bigger, and dont use the quick release system that the fabia uses. so for the gains it would provide which would be minimal, its not worth the hassle fecking about getting pipework fabricated. :)

besides... its gonna start getting colder again now... itll be winter soon

go for the twin tt set up cost me

Apologies Lummox I didn't mean to get personal, think I saw the red mist, hope you can accept an apology :(.

I appreciate that myself and others sometimes post threads which are no hopers from the start, but the feedback is invaluable ( especially for the none technically minded, e.g. Me  ) and helps me aswell as others decide which is the best route to go down in terms of tuning, and in this case it seems like it's an FMIC :o

Having said all of that....

Hellfire,

To say im not helpfull and all i do is criticise is maybe a little harsh. Have a look back through my posts and you will find most of them are informative and indeed helpfull (I share my somewhat informed knowledge of Skoda's).

The point I was trying to make (OK I didnt make it to well) was that there have been numerours threads by yourself (such as FMIC, 312mm brakes to name a few off the top of my head) that myself and many others have done a bit of leg work for yourself and looked back on our old posts and repeated ourselves for your benifit. This goes on for X period of time until you usually say oh well I dont have the money anyhow.

Fair enough its good banter and we like a good discussion it gets you thinking, but when yu kinda know what the outcome will be it all seems rather pointless. Dont take it personally its not meant that way.

In any case - trying to get back on topic ;) - Octy SMIC seems like a LOT of work for unlikely to be good benefit.

I'm definitely interested in how the twin SMICs would fit though, in my Furby you wouldn't have a hope of ever fitting twin SMICs. In the Octy you may have a chance, but I've not checked under the bonnet of one recently so I'll reserve judgement.

Seems like a single FMIC is a) easier to fit and B) more effective and c) probably reversible

There are numerous threads about different FMICs for the Furby, and Octy for that matter, and it is looking like an upgrade which has great benefits during the warmer times of the year for both petrol & diesel (turbo-versions) of both cars. Tempted I am for sure, but as usual dosh coming into play, I'm gonna try saving up slowly ;)

My results from twin SMIC's are about 40% of those gained by the fitting of a Seat FMIC. I think this is a stop gap before I can afford a full FMIC installation.

Fitting the twin smics, I used two cross pipes ( which aid cooling, maybe attatch some fins) and some very flexible HVAC ducting. It holds 1.6 bar boost and no apparent lag. I had to bodge a few things to get the other one in the water bottle being just one. No photos yet may borrow a camera soon.

Only a stepping stone, I'll need more cooling soon.

My concern is logged water temps with the FMIC which are slightly higher although a bigger cooling fan may get fitted soon I understand.

A majority of the topics which I have asked I have done, and lets not forget the point of a forum, it's a place of discussion. It doesn't mean because I/others post something that we are going to do the mods necessarily, I am usually trying to see of any benefits, cost involved etc. Once a concensus has been reached I will buy that item if I still want it.

Yes, of course you are correct, it is a discussion forum and I fill it with enough crap about Felicia's and pick ups. Please except my appologies for an unfair outburst, i'll blame it on the heat.

In weather like this, the world definitely needs more beer

On which note I've just cracked a can :D :D :D
