1.4 DSG or Not

Featured Replies

The online UK Octavia configurator lets me spec both the SE and Elegance with a 1.4tsi, 140bhp, with DSG but my dealer says it does not exist and cars can only be ordered as specked in the Brochure - where 1.4 DSg are not listed.

Is this correct and does anyone know when the 1.4, 140bhp, DSg will become available/

Thanks Yeti-Man, you would think the dealers would know what is coming and advise accordingly. Due to lack of info from my local dealer I have already booked a test drive in the Golf GT which looks like a very nice car with lots of new tech as standard and currently available from DTD at a £3k discount - a great deal.

The dealers are usually the last to know unfortunately! :( Good luck with the GT test drive, a very nice car on all accounts. :)

From this week 22 you can order a 1,4 DSG. Week 22 is the week the factory starts on 2014 models and 2014 models includes 1,4 DSG. Just have in mind that the DSG gearbox is extremely faulty and as we "speak" owners in Germany are making a lawsuit against VW Audi and Skoda. Just like they did with the Timing chain problem.

I would NEVER buy a DSG gearbox NEVER

Each to their own, but my own experience of a double clutch 'box (not in a VW, Audi or Skoda admittedly) is so good I'd never go back to a manual - at least in a performance car. It's wrong IMO to condemn all DSG boxes. A business colleague did however have a Seat Leon TDI DSG for four years as a company car, did 150k miles and had no issues whatsoever. He has now retired and bought his own DSG equipped VW.

Skoda Customer Service replied,on 4th July,to my similar query, about the availability of the 1.4TSI linked to a DSG. "The new ŠKODA Octavia 1.4 TSI DSG can now be ordered from any ŠKODA retailer and will be available from 05 August 2013"

I have not ordered yet and I am still mulling over my options.

I find all this fear about the DSG problems a little confusing because I have not heard about it until very recently. Clearly I am not reading the right magazines but my own experience would not put me off another DSG7. I have driven automatics for at least the last 20 years without any problems and have had my current Mk 2 Octavia, with a 1.8 TSI DSG, since new without any issues at all. What more can I say?!

See 'DELIVERY TIMES' posts !

I ordered a 1.4TSi Elegance with DSG on 26 June following contact from Skoda UK who said they could be ordered after 23 June.

It will replace the same Octy II with a DSG & after 3 years have had no problems with it.

Just in case I have paid extra to get an extended warranty by which time I will no doubt ready to change again.

Forgot to mention that the brochure sent from Skoda does spec the 1.4TSi DSG Elegance, as did the one my dealer had. So I guess your dealer is using old stock brochures. Sounds like you need to point that out to them or of course go to another dealer.

My current car, which has the 7-speed DSG, got the clutches replaced after about 20.000 km's. All on warranty, of course. Actually, I've had a heap of problems with my car (clutches, oil pump, turbo, AC fan, light management system, and a few other smaller issues). The car just recently passed 70.000 km's on the odo... Even so - mainly because of a very service minded dealer- I have no reservations towards the DSG box. Or Skoda, for that matter. Actually, I got one on order. 1.4 TSI DSG :whew:
