what coilpacks?

Featured Replies

ok so prety sure my coilpacks are starting to pack up again even tho skoda replaced them under that warranty thing many years ago

my question is what packs should i get? (part numbers may help) as i remember hearing about another suppression

think the ones that are revised are either R or D anything else should be due a change iirc, though please check this.

Psi tuning do the adapters to fit the 2 later coil packs that are better.when mine go will be swapping to them

however the standard coilpacks work fine, and dont cost anything under the recall, wheras the adapters and mk2 coilpacks do cost, not sure how much tho?

as long as they last i dont mind what i get as long as im not spending a bomb

well the revisions cost nothing

Whats the symptoms as the newer are a lot better ?

well skoda did replace them about 2 years ago

its a sounds like a tad bit of a missfire and the engine is a tad lumpy on start up

yes the recall has been going on since 2011 iirc, can you check your packs, what letter is at the end of the part number?

do you have access to a proper scan?

I just had mine done under recall and have the revised r version.they are replacing everything else, but when they go which they will I will pay 60 quid and do the upgrade as the 2 litre coil packs are better for mapped cars which mine will be soon.

the earlier coilpacks also work fine with a mapped car, trust me, have run enough of them.

The newer coilpacks may be less proned to fail, but will you go any faster as a result of fitting them...no is the answer.

How much are the newer coilpacks?

aren't the adapters around £60 on their own?

2.0 tfsi packs are about £90 per set and adapters about £60. I have red ones for some under bonnet bling !

you all about da bling badboy!

does look good your engine!

i had some very similar red coilpacks not that long ago from ecs iirc, didnt need the adapters so guess the seatings were different

Strangest thing that happened to me regarding coil packs on 1.8T engine.

Changed my plugs, put everything back together. Next day drove from Newcastle to Southampton.

Got about 5 miles into journey and horrendous interference from engine on radio (alternator whine which changed with revs) and the car accelerated REALLY well, it was like a restriction had been lifted.

Got to services, checked engine. Found 2 coil packs had lifted. Put them back down firmly.

normal performance returned. No noise. Got 10 miles on and noise was back as was better performance.

Oh great, coils packs are duff, need 2 new ones. Finished the journey enjoying the extra oomph.

Went to fit the new coil packs from stealership and found 2 of my plugs weren't torqued down properly. The gasses were passing them and lifting the coil packs up! 1 minute with a socket wrench later and everything was fine.

Really weird how the performance was better.

the performance change could have been down do the pressure change and maybe an influx of pirate air but yh wierd

without tight plugs you arent getting proper compression, so performance will suffer for sure

Tfsi coil packs are a good upgrade not had one fail yet !!

Have had the new upgrade ones fail already on customers cars

Tfsi coil packs have be known to help in high hp cars aswell hence why some of the fastest vag cars are running them

So for a little bit of ££ you can have reliability and some bling best of both worlds ;-)

I can supply adaptors ;-)

in general all coils and coilpacks can fail, they are a consumable part.

yes the new ones can work well, but the old ones also work well in plently of stock and modded cars

its not suddenly a prerequisite to fit this or else your car can't go on, however as said they do look nice, for £150ish i guess they should though!

i will see what the letter is but im sure mine are on the way out i changed the plugs and theres still a tad bit of a missfire and all the other coilpack symptoms so if ican get them for free then yay if not well im not spending over £100 on a set of coilpacks for the sake of bling it will be down to wether or not i am willing to invest for the amount of time i will own the car in the future

good point, see how you get on, if not let me know, i have got a number of second hand ones, no bling, but they work as they should!

free or not free that is the question and how do i get them done for free if so?

just call your local skoda dealer in the morning and ask them to check if your car has any outstanding recalls for coilpacks showing.they check the reg and can tell you straight away.they got mine in 4 days later and swapped in an hour and even had a coffee and car cleaned.

can you get the car fault logged?

Quote 28F7 also.
