After market alloys - wheel bolts coming loose

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I bought some Audi type alloys and fitted them to my Octavia which had standard alloys. The original wheels were 16in and the new ones are 18in but fitted with lower profile tyres so they fit ok. Where the bolts fit they have numerous holes so they presumably fit different vehicles, unfortunately when I drive about 3-4 miles the bolts come loose, any ideas anyone? I used my original wheel bolts.

It's likely that the bolts you used do not fit correctly on the Audi wheels. You need to make sure that the chamfered face on the bolt is the same as the socket on the wheel.

It is also possible that the wheel bolts aren't long enough, I would check how much thread is going into the hub as well.

What ever a dangerous situation which needs fixing.

The company that supplied the alloys should be able to advise you.

Hi I bought the wheels second hand, and when I fitted them I thought the bolts did not appear to go in as far as when fitted to my old alloys, I will look into the paint issue as the wheels have been re-sprayed. Any ideas where I might get longer bolts from if these are too short?

AFAIK there are 2 types of bolt, a tapered one with a flat slope and a radius one with a curved slope

my guess is your original bolts are radius and the wheels are tapered so not making the proper contact, and coming loose
