Gauges on/off

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just picked up this Octavia MK1 for a bargain and it has some issues. The most annoying one is that my speedo/rpm/temp/fuel gauges sometimes go off and go on again. By off I mean they drop down to like no-contact and then go up to the current speed etc. I've tried searching but couldn't really find any similair problem. Could this be a loose contact or overheating problem?

Thanks!

Very common problem, you can't be searching right! http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/127362-poll-for-instrument-panel-fault/

It it is said that a dry joint on one of the voltage regulators on the dash PCB is to blame. If you pull out fuse 15 then then gauges will work all the time, but trip details will be forgotten when the ignition is turned off.

I have this PDF guide, but the arrows are missing!

Thanks! I must have missed that thread :) I'll try to see if the fuse #15 works.. no biggie if it's only the trip details right? Mileage counter still works?

mpg calculations, miles since last reset, etc will all be forgotten, along with the time. Pulling the fuse isn't an ideal solution - but should work as a short term fix.

Total mileage will still tick along.

Welcome to Briskoda, btw. If you had a read through the mk1 forum I am sure you will soon learn about the standard quirks our cars have.

I remember my mk1 corsa b!

Pulled the fuse for the fag lighter and the mileometer didn't move! Good for keeping low miles (i dont condone this)

Yes I'm beginning to think what did I get myself in to..... haha no just joking ;) Car rides fantastic and already had the 1.8T engine in my Golf IV, pretty much the reason I picked this one.

I know it's a temp fix but I need to keep it working before I find a decent guide how to fix it, I'm sure there's one around.

Good tip!
