Poll for instrument panel fault.

This thread and poll is going to be the base of our petition to skoda to get these gauges replaced under warrantee.

What we intend to do, is present skoda with our petition.

If they fail to do anything about it, then we WILL be taking this to BBC's Watchdog.

. If everyone could vote if the've had the problem or not.

. Post what model octavia mk1 it is. (including engine size and trim)

. Also post your dissatisfaction to skoda.

This data will be used to help us get the gauge's repaired free of charge under warrantee, irrespective if the car is out of warrantee, as these cars shouldn't have this problem.

We need video's and testimony's from skoda octavia owners too. (if possible)

Petition to Skoda,

To make an offical recall to the Skoda Octavia mark one.

The fault is with the gauges, It can be intermittant.

They all zero whilst driving, which is dangerous as you cant tell the

Speed of the car, the revv's, the temperature, or the fuel level.

The trip computer carries on working, and the mpg.

However a temporary fix has been discovered by the users of "briskoda.net"

to remove fuse no. 15, which zero's the digital trip gauges, but the dials

now function, however they dont function correctly.

The cause is believed to be due to dry joints on the regulators at back of the gauges.

This fault makes the car unfit to drive,

and should be replaced Free of charge as a recall irrespective of warrantee.

It is the Octavia mark one.

and is Irrespective of mileage or age of the car, as they should last the life of the vechile.

Basically telling them about the fault, with the octavia.

This is the reply I've recieved from skoda.

In the first place this has to be directed to your local retailer who are best placed to deal with an issue. They know who to contact should this be an issue and we can then resolve with the owner.

skoda octavia GLXi 1,6 2000, had the problem a year ago, been running without the fuse num 15 since then.

1999 1.6LX Octavia. Had to remove fuse 15 some time ago. This resolves the problem for the majority of the time, although it does reappear occasionally, even with the fuse removed. The car has also done less than 75K miles at the time of writing.

Removal of fuse 15 gets the guages working again with the caveats above.

Yep, you've found VAG-Cat I've been using it a lot recently as needed part numbers for bits when my car got damaged. I don't think all of those part numbers are affected but if the people on here who do have the problem can look up their car on the list and make a note of the part number it would narrow down which part numbers are the right ones for the affected dash units.

Thank you for this link as put I did post this one before. Some one on Briskoda was saying that regulators are cause of fault but this was never confirmed here, and I was not finding this either, and no one has ever found fault with instrument panel yet I think, and not regulators either here.

I did posting of Regulator details that you find here, to be of help for other guys, who were looking for fault here. Ideas here have been connectors, board print, componant electrical breakdown. I am thinking that it is componant electrical breakdown, but schematic is not availiable, and the panel access to do the faulting work is not so good, and so I did not find the fault here. My one before I retire, was higher technical officer, electronics/computing and I know about all this stuff, and so I made test rig, for the problem, but could not track the fault.

I think that first I did the cure for the problem with the back panel connectors, but the problem happened again, and so I did the replacement of panel from salvage yard for £50, and then had dealer do ECU recode here.

I replace panel 1U2919034A with one 1U2919034B which is meaning now that speedo is reading 10 MPH more than speed that I go, and extra 1,500 millage on odo meter. But this is not problems for me, now.

I think that the only solving of the problem, will be Skoda Company, or Felicia racer taking problems to TVs watchdog, as he is saying here.
