Improve sound of 140PS diesel and aftermarket fog lights

Featured Replies

Just little bit more then week ago I became an owner of 4x4 TDI 140 Yeti. So I am new here on board and seems these forum is the most comprehensive with lots of info about Yeti

I live in Taiwan, and there are only 2 options for Yeti: 4x4 TDI 140 and 1.2TSI.

I never had a diesel car (except when I drove military tracks when I was in Army) and I very impressed with powerful torque of this diesel engine. My previous car was T4 Caravelle with 2.5L petrol.

Before I moved to Taiwan I had US spec WRX wagon with upgraded turbo, intercooler, etc. etc. with 258hp at the wheels. So I love powerful estates with all wheel drive.

I told my self do not start upgrading Yeti like I did with WRX but upgrade bug bites again :bandit:

I guess this is the same engine used by other cars in VW group so I wonder if anyone heard about by changing intake or exhaust will improve sound of the engine; more prominent and manly :giggle: ?

Also, is anyone installed additional fog or driving lights for Yeti to improve appearance and light output as I think standard low beams is crappy here?

Have you considered hearing aids as an alternative?

I thought driving WRX with 3" pipe and Prodrive muffler is considering as a sleeper but new experience tell the opposite :p

Or maybe because car is still in break in period so I am not taking it over 4000rpm then above it will sound the different?

I guess I am still craving after that aftermarket Ford Ranger 3.2L diesel sound, but because wife refused to drive this type of car I had to downgrade(or upgrade) to Yeti?

Please don/t mind stupid music

Something like this sound :D

Having just got rid of my Scooby after owning it for 10 years, I have to say that the only thing I really miss is the sound. Wish something could be done to make the Yeti sound better, but short of some sort of exhaust note changing device through the ICE, I can't see it happening.

The Scoob had a relatively quiet H&S 3" pipe on it, which burbled purposefully at idle, made all the right sounds through the revs and had an amusing habit of banging and popping when coming off of the power.

But then again, the Yeti doesn't set out to appear to be from a rally, so perhaps it should make a growling sound, and cough up furballs when coming off of the power?

The only decent sounding diesel I have heard is the BMW straight 6.

But really, no diesel is going to sound great. You need a V16 petrol BRM engine if you want a great sound.

Nothing is lost yet

But it still sounds like a diesel.

Nothing beats the sound of a decent petrol engine with more than 4 cylinders, preferably 8 or 12 in a Vee formation.

Search for soundaktor. Electronic device on some vag cars to give more induction noise. Standard on 170 scirocco. Works really well

A pair of twin choke Webers with open trumpets.

Sounded luvverrly on my MG Maestro.(Shame about the rest of the car.)

I have an Audi A5 3tdi sounds pretty good in sport with drive set to dynamic

but I agree it doesn't sound anything like my S4 with a 4.2 V8

But it doesn't give any improvements except artificial noise making :hi:

Thank for the link, but I would be all over that when I was 18 :giggle:

I had it on my Scirocco, and I didn't realise. I just thought the engine sounded brilliant! It sounds very natural induction noise, its not like it makes it sound like a V8 or anything.

At the end of the day your 140 diesel is always going to sound like a diesel which is why VAG fit soundaktors in the factory....

That's all very well! But to return to the subject, how can one improve the sound of the aftermarket fog lights?

haha, I give up. It was silly to put two questions into one topic :sun:

Better base fixing for them?

More intake noise? K&N 57i air induction kit (should be readily available in Taiwan). Gives a few more bhp to boot.
