Alloy Gators on Neptune wheels, anyone?

Featured Replies

Hey all

I'm about to take delivery of a set of Neptunes and am a bit wary of scuffing them up!

Has anyone installed Alloy Gators on their wheels? If so, how have you found them? What colour did you go for?

Also, if you have any pictures as to what they look like (on Neptunes especially) I'd be most grateful if you could post them up.

Cheers in advance

Danny

I know one member tried them and ended up taking them off, the reason was because the way they are fitted interferes with the tyre beading and they had a slow unexplained air loss which turned out to be caused by the alloy gator. Also if dirt gets behind them it will act like sandpaper and rub the paint away.

Cheers for sharing. I don't think your mate is alone as there are a few other similar tales I've encountered during my research.

There's no better way to advertise to everyone that you can't park :giggle:

At least scuffed alloys suggest the wife drives the car too

I went for green on black 5 spokes. Was hoping the color would be nearer my calipers. They are not. Have not had any problems with defaltion so far and they have saved me scraping the wheels on many occasions. Living in London you do not have the luxury of parking a safe distance away from usually high curbs. If you do park away from the curb you tend to have a damaged ( read mangled ) wing mirror ( even if closed or folded ).

Got my wheel guys to fit them ....again jury still out , but they are starting to grow on me weirdly as i tend to go a bit more subtle.

Don't look bad if you make a feature of it its ok. You need it lower

Thanks ...... was going to get the calipers painted the same colour ......but i like the original vrs green better. It's settled a bit since then. With the amount of sunken pot holes and speed humps in London ....won't dare go any lower. Eibach pros with koni Str.t ....is a nice compromise.

I like you had the green calipers much betterthan red

Aren't there some brands of tyres that have this feature? I know my good years have them?

Too a degree , i have had tyres with so called edge protectors built in. They are ok at best and offer a little edge protection. But if you park too close you get horrible scapping noise and ruined rims. These actually stick out a bit and offer full protection as they are hard plastic and not rubber. You can get more subtle colours. Also my fitter told me that the fit really depends on the wheel , the flusher the surface the better the fit.

It's a compromise , i was going to go with the black colour , but black alloys with black rubber and black alloygaytors ...too much black and nothing to break it up a bit. With hindsight should have tried contacting the company to see if they would have produced a mint green version just for me. Personally i don't think they will suit all alloys ....If i had rims with a machined or polished edge ( lip ) , i would not bother and just refurb the edges when they get scrapped.

Tyres with rim flange protection have worked pretty well for me over the years. I've only damaged the alloys once and that was in deep snow when the kerb was well hidden.
