The first Octy 3 delivered is to be the first resprayed :(

Featured Replies

It looks like the first  Octy 3 to be picked up is going to be the first to be resprayed   last night I saw I faint mark in the paintwork of the drivers door, initially it looked like the detailers hadnt polished the whole door, missing the upper quarter around the door handle. I tried rewashing and polishing the whole door but at work today I could still see the Mark in the sun light when looking at an angle to the door so took it to Hortons. Initially the service guy couldn't see the imperfection despite me pointing out the demarkation line once he saw it he immediately took it across the road to the body shop they use. Half an hour latter he was back saying the door needed respraying:(  it appears it must have been flashed over at the factory to cover an imperfection but they didn't do the whole door which has left the line which is only visible in direct sunlight when viewed from an angle.  They have sent loads of photos off to SUK to get clearance, then they are going to need it for three days. I've made it very clear to Hortons that I don't want any marks on my lovely ivory leather interior. I'm not going to be happy now until the cars back in pristine condition, else I'm not accepting it back, bummer.

Well i think it is metallic paint? if so they will be better off spraying that whole side of the car to match the paint right

Doubt it will have happened at the factory, more likely to be in transit/ at the port. Hope you get it sorted satisfactorily.

Apparently they no longer need to do this anymore.

It couldnt have happened in transit as a saw it with all the transportation protection on!

erm, really?!

I've had a mini where the door was just resprayed alone and the match was perfect. I certainly won't be accepting it back if it isn't considering the fault is presently only visible in certain light conditions

Sorry to hear that Stokey, I'm sure you'll get the car back and it will be flawless. My wife spotted a lot of tiny scratches on, or in, the gloss plastic B pillar trim, going to take the car in tomorrow so Sparshatt's valet man can give it a coat of looking at.

Apparently they no longer need to do this anymore.

still the best thing to do i think, takes a very very skilled painter to just paint one panel on a metallic paint car, safer bet is to do that one side to match the paint on the rest of the panels

The brother in law works at a very reputable body shop and they wouldn't do just one panel without blending to the next as its exceptionally difficult to match a metallic so well that its right in all lighting conditions from every angle. As you say though, it will be perfect before you accept the repair. :)

I you paint one side of the car, you will have to do the whole car then. All you have to do is paint the area needed then a bit more, then Finnish of by blending into the surrounding panels. It's when you paint one panel only that it will stand out against the other panels as you have created a stop line.

Watch out for people who say they have only sprayed the panel. On closer inspection it can be used as a smoke screen to take your eye away from the real blend area. The customer thinks oh that shut is a great match where they really need to be looking further out and then notice it's been blended poorly

Also look out for any mask lines on the bits that should be covered up. Aldo make sure there is no overspray in the shuts etc

Oh my God... I am sorry to hear that stokey... so one more thing to add to the check list when taking it from the dealer...

The door has had paint work, but it's taken me a month to find and I can spot bodywork imperfections a mile off, if they had painted the whole door it would never had been detected. The paint match between the door and surrounding panels is spot on. It took the service rep a good couple of minutes of me pointing it out before he could see it! I'm not worried about the ability of them getting a good colour match its more that they'll mess my lovely interior up!!! Like i said though I won't be accepting it back less than perfect, Hortons have never let me down before I hope it continues!

Had to wash mine again, and give it a full inspection earlier, I think the neighbours think i am a nutter! :giggle: Can't find anything to worry about, except the fact I've had to put the child seats in for the first time, off for a family outing later!

Stokey, if the imperfection is so hard to spot, I'd probably be looking for a good will gesture rather than risking a further botch job. I know how you feel about your lovely new motor no longer being pristine, but if you can live with it, maybe get your winter wheels for free or something, that may ease the pain? Lets face it, you may drive out the showroom in a couple of weeks only to have some idiot dent it in the supermarket car park!?

Have to agree with that - won't stay showroom for long

I'm the same, straight back to the dealers this morning because Her Indoors saw some very minor scratches on the B pillar trim, two points I guess, a) sadly yes sooner or later some to55er in Tesco will open their car door and dent a panel and B) good though these cars are, you can't expect it to have the same level of meticulous finish as say a Rolls Royce Phantom!

Sadly true - two things to bear in mind I guess 1 : sooner or later some to55er in Tesco will carelessly open their door and dent a panel and 2 : there's me tearing off to the dealer because Her Indoors saw some almost insignificant scratches in the B pillar trim - good these cars are you can't expect the same level of finish in a Skoda as you would expect to find in a Rolls Royce Phantom!

I sympathise with Stokey, my last wife destroyed the back passenger door and wing of my then pride and joy, a 6 week old Mondeo, by forgetting to pull out of her father's drive before turning the steering wheel. I was only stopped from going into orbit by my father in law's pleading look. The respray was ok for a few weeks then salt rings showed through. It was redone but the gloss (forgive the pun) of the new car had worn off. I am sure Hortons will do a good job.

After getting home from York with my new (to me) V70, I discovered some poor paintwork on the driver's door where some scratches had been resprayed. My local dealer re-did the painting and I was very nervous about getting it matched in. The job was flawless though and in 5 years of ownership I never noticed the difference between the factory paint job and the second repair - and that was on metallic paint.

Sarge.

I bought a 2 litre ford sierra saloon many years ago in what I thought was a lovely red. Only when I got it home I realised it was 2 completely different shades on each side - darker at the back and lighter at the front!

It couldnt have happened in transit as a saw it with all the transportation protection on!

Sorry to hear you have this issue and likewise I have also seen the car in transit rapping. Respray at the factory does happen as does repairs form transit incidents. One of the chaps on Hortons service desk worked in the bodyshop industry for a while, so has a good idea about these things.

Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction; as its a real nice motor,

TP
