New Purchase - Track Day Wheels (pictures)

Featured Replies

A Gigaro wheel fitted with Pirelli tyre 205/40R 17 is 19.5 kg

filled with nitrogen!! maybe different with oxygen.

(not being serious there.)

george

bear in mind when you go for a lighter wheel, chances are you will no doubt be fitting wider 215/40 tyres which will cancel out some of that weight saving. Woth it for the gain in grip though.

Porsche do red wheels on a white car.

Porsche Carrera RSR

.

I am of two minds now:

1. Leave them white and simply refurbish in this colour as I actually like this "track day look"

2. Strip it and paint mat black

What do you think?

And the biggest damage. Some bright spark fitted too large calipers...

Let me know what you think

Thank you for your time :)

Nothing wrong with the colour or condition of them for track day use, they look straight and are presentable, thats all that matters.

The rubbing on the inside is down to them being the wrong offset (ET) for the car they were on, so they caught the callipers, hardly surprising when he listed as being:

ET35 ET40 ET45"

Now you either have 3 different spec wheels :giggle: … or more than likely he hasn’t got a clue about wheel sizes.

Personally I would ditch the tyres and put some half decent rubber on - as surely on a track day you will be pushing the car to (or close to) it’s limit, decent tyres are going to make the biggest difference here, they are also the only thing to keep you connected to the track.

Does weight really matter? After all Jabo is going to sit his 14 stone in the car........

Remember the secret to enjoying a track day, IT IS A BIT OF FUN! You are not winning points nor will anybody give you a prize for being the winner/fastest.

Your wheels will do fine mate, now get booked on the October track day at Oulton Park or Blyton.

I used to be like that, but the problem is going to forum arranged trackdays or meets when you try other peoples cars and realize that their car feels much better due to X, y & Z mods, so naturally, you step onto that slippery slope and never get back off it lol

Self control or will power Sy, or maybe not, just don't ever have a go of the GTR Nissan imagine trying to get yourself that buzz.

However saying that Richard is as at home in the Nissan as he is in the Yeti.

I have a set of TD pro race 3 wheels for track time/summer time. Certainly notice the difference in weight over the S3 Avus wheels I run in winter (although they are a particularly heavy wheel)

16 stones mate, 100kg  - and that's after morning dump

I've just swapped fronts with backs and had an attempt (using crappy old bathroom scales)

Gigaros weigh at 20kg and Pro Lites between 16-17kgs.

I agree with the theory of rotating mass being "worth" more than static mass and I would like to confirm somewhere what the numbers are. Not that it matters, really , perhaps for pub quizz purposes and to see if there is any difference in how the car will go around tracks :).

I'd love to be able to afford Pro Race 1.2 alloys, they are the best! As for the Wolfrace being chavtastic - I could not care any less really, I am the least brand aware person on the Earth!

The reason I went for it was that Pro Lites were described on Wolfrace website as track alloys and I like the look of them and they were good value for money, even including crap, part work budget tyres. I wonder how much I could get for the rubber on fleebay? £30 per tyre? What do you think?

I've been really busy today and had no time to post and tomorrow will be the same so sorry for not replying :)

I did however take some photos of the baked brake pads and 7.5k miles worth of wear on original dunlops - difference between front and back.

If you do not mind I'd like to have your comments on the pads photos. I took them on the driver side, front and rear.

Federals are the tyres I would like to buy really...

I wonder if Skoda Dealer could supply them. Why? I have some vouchers to spend with them and I am wondering what to use them for...

Interesting pics. I can still actually see the Dunlop Sport Maxx logo down the middle "line" of the tread on the rears after 11,000 km. Also, I think your calipers need a bit of a clean. :giggle: Incidentally, does everyone else have front calipers that look a duller (or less glossy) red than the rears, or have mine been affected by too much wheel cleaner and/or brake dust build-up?

They were squeaky clean before HowFast? so all you see is brake dust after that and 6 days of daily driving :)

wait until you put more performance orientated pads on, then you will see brake dust!

On white rims it will be even more pronounced- hence matt black refurb idea :)

They look lovely Jabo! Have you decided to go for matt black? I'd hate to park next to you at a meet! I'd probably end up getting into your car by accident with standard alloys on hehe!

Thanks :)

The reason I was considering refurbing them was to get some practice before I attemp a refurb of my badly kerbed Gigaro alloy - my own fault that...

But having read all the comments people made and learning how massively time consuming fully blown refurb is as well as keeping in mind I will only be using them for track days... I think I will leave them as they are... perhaps some general touch ups and light respray and not a fully blown refurb.
