off to look at an Octavia.

Featured Replies

Just after a little feed back and other views.

Going to look at a 2006 55plate Octavia 1.9 TDi estate with 155k on the clock. Its priced at £2450 which is at the top end of my budget. Is this over priced? Should I not consider this?

Cambelt just been done and full service history but what big bills could rear their ugly head?

After looking at a mk1 03 reg for £1750 which was a bit ropey, no service history, though "receipt for cambelt" and hand brake cable had snapped, I'm going with an open mind to the adverts description.

Any key points worth looking at would help.

Cheers

Mike.

Yes £2450 does seem overpriced for that many miles.

As long as it's been regularly serviced the engine should be OK with the obvious increased risk of failure of any component as it has more use. The major problem will be the steering and suspension wear.

I wouldn't go that high personally. For that budget I'd be looking a bit older with less miles, or pay slightly more to get under the 100k mark. I'd say that car's worth more like £1950. You can happily haggle as there won't be many people looking at that car, as you'll find when coming to sell it afterwards.

Thanks Dirk, I was also thinking around that sort of price.

I will also agree with the slightly older and less miles, but the few I've seen have been very ropey and the good ones are well over price to which they won't budge on price.

I'll have a look at it and see how much they will knock off.

Also the cheaper cars are a lot further out, I've already done 300 miles looking at cars which have not been that great.
