3 years free servicing - high mileage driver

Featured Replies

Good morning,

When I ordered my car on Monday, I spoke to dealer about this offer. On the face of it, it looks good however this for me would be less than 12 months servicing as I do about 35k a year (96k in 32 months!!)

We spoke to Skoda to ask them if there was anything they could do, and the response was ' computer says no'.

Customer services are now looking into it, but has anybody got any experience of this and having it changed.

I do not want the car on fixed regime.

Thanks.

My dealer recommended that I go on the fixed regime to get best value out of the free servicing offer, as otherwise I'd only get one service free same as you, but I "only" drive 20k miles per year so it would be less of a PITA for me than you.

You can alter the servicing regime, so as a compromise you could have one service at 10k miles, switch over to the variable option and then have the second service at 30k. At least that way you'd get two free services.

It's 3 years or 30000 miles so I can't see them changing it for an individual, but as the car comes set for the flexible servicing from the factory I can't see the problem in leaving it at that and you doing the say 18000 miles before the first service is done. I read of Octy 2 owners where the dealership forgot to change it to fixed and they went the extended mileage before being changed to fixed at the first service, they didn't get a third service though as by then they'd gone over the 30000 mile limit.

That's fine, but if I want to take out a service plan (for the following two years) it becomes a pain.

I will see what Skoda says.

Not really because you can have the service plan based on the flexible regime once you've maxed out the value of the free 30k offer. I don't believe you will get anywhere with Skoda as the offer is quite clear "30k miles or 3 years whichever is the sooner" and if they waivered for you it would open the floodgates for everyone, sadly.

Technically they don't even have to honour that offer unless your car is delivered before 30th June either, as that is when the offer ends so I would double check that with Skoda when you contact them as well.

Got my paperwork through at last and it clearly states what the plan excludes and states high mileage drivers will miss out on certain components of the plan. The plan is a standard VAG fixed price service plan, my wife paying £350 for exactly the same plan on her Seat Ibiza.

IIRC you'll need to keep to the fixed plan 10k/12 months which ever comes first. if you ignored this and decided you wanted to be on the variable service regime and booked your car in at say 18k for it's first service when the light comes on skoda finance would probably refuse to pay as you've not 'kept to the plan'. I remember someone else doing this by accident because the dealer left his car on variable and didn't explain the free servicing offer fully. He eventually got SUK finance to pay for the service based on the dealer **** up but it wasn't an easy task and as you've already asked looks like you'll be taking it in every 4 months or so which is a PITA.

They all come set to variable from the factory so you could change it to fixed if you have maxidot if you want while your on the service deal, but you can't change it back yourself, though the dealer can.

You could of course leave the car settings on variable and just ring them up and book it in every 10k to save you swapping back later. After your 3rd 'free' service if it was still set to variable you'd then not have to take it in until the light came on, but you'd need to check they'd used oil that's comparible with the variable service paln on it's 3rd service and not a different one for the fixed service (SWMBO has a PD and that has specific oil for fixed interval services, which suggests that for variable they would use something else if you get my drift- I might be wrong but it's better to check it out before hand so you know what the situation is)

good luck

I have a similar issue, I do 22k pa but as I have taken the finance, I got the free servicing and the car has been delivered on fixed mileage service intervals. I will be taking the car in for free servicing every 5 months to start with then switching to variable after the 30k service. I have also been quoted approx. £20 per month for a service plan that takes me through a further 3 variable services which should mean my last service will be at about 84k in total and I'll get rid of the car just before 100k.

SWMBO also had free servicing initially on her 2009 Octy II, but she only does 6k pa, so we left hers on variable servicing, took it in at 2 years and 3 years only on the free plan so we technically lost one free sercice but got the first MOT thrown in for free, and now we have put it on a 3yr fixed servicing plan, max 10k pa which includes the big 4 year service and 3 years of MOT's for £20/month which is reasonable imo.

I have been quoted £29 or so for 35,000 miles per year servicing, and £59 or so for maintenance.

IF I take this plan out, I will be paying for approximately 12 months for nothing, or do I take it out in just under a year?? will I be able to do that?

Sounds like a discussion you need to have with your dealer....
