Dog Ramp

Featured Replies

Hi, can anyone suggest a dog ramp suitable for a Yeti 1.2 tsi 2 wheel drive please? We have a retriever which weighs around 25 kg so it will have to be robust,non-slip & easily stowed in the boot. Don't want to pay more than about £50-£60 so can anyone advise please? Thanks, Curly 947

Save your money and tell your dog not to be so lazy and jump in and out...

Our old flatcoat retriever used to jump in and out, until his last year or so of life when some of the spring had gone from his back legs, but even then he'd put his front paws on the sill and with a little lift of his rear by me he'd be in. Our new, now 6 month old, flattie (already 25kg, and still growing) hasn't yet developed the confidence to jump and I'm lifting him in ... but I'm a big, hefty kind of bloke, my wife can't lift him, so I can see why a ramp might be needed.

Fair enough Bob......

make one in chipboard, hinged in middle with 2 prongs(to stop collapse when in use), varnish it, whilst still wet sprinkle sand on, gives a great non slip surface, use the same on my dinghy(fine sand) only prob, expensive in keks!!

We bought a Pet Gear Trifold ramp, which has 3 sections and 2 hinges. Being made of plastic I was prepared for it to be a bit wobbly but it's surprisingly sturdy. The extra length compared to a single hinged version stops it being too steep for the high bumper of the Yeti, and it has a nice non-slip surface. I was pleased to discover that when folded it will just fit flat on the floor behind the rear seats (in their normal rearmost setting), leaving enough room for 14 year old collie to curl up on a cushion beside it. I did think of making one but to be equally strong in wood it would probably have to be twice the weight.

My 9-month old 24kg Labradoodle is so keen on car journeys that she'll jump into any open boot she passes when out walking - a bit embarrassing when a stranger is unloading their shopping and needing some pretty fast apologies then a hasty retreat!

Our flattie tried to jump from the shore to the boat yesterday ... and missed  . At least we now know he can swim!

After our 55kg bullmastiff snapped a dog ramp I bought a motorbike ramp off eBay. There are plenty on there - we got one of the ones with 3 red rubber end pieces which rest on the boot opening. It folds in two and fits across the boot and I covered the top of the ramp in rubber using a rubber boot mat from costco I cut to fit. The rubber mat was about a tenner and the ramps are under £50 delivered.

Apparently there is - it's where the Woodfordes Headcracker is stored. Just tried some (quality control, you understand) and it's a bit on the potent side :drunk:
