Octavia Elegance TDI

Featured Replies

After much thought ive decided to go for the TDI.

Having taken the old RS for a blast i remembered why i sold it  .

Half a mile up the road from the dealers , theres Plod standing there with the radar pointing straight at me  .

The Elegance tdi feels quick in comparison to the Fabia. And the fuel consumption should still be ok.

Anyone know if you can chip the oil burner, id love to get it up to around 150 bhp.It would make a great sleeper.

steve

Oh yes they are chipable. Several to choose from. They are primarily a european product (Belgian comes highly recommended) and most are plug and play. Cost about

Have a look in Tuning in our web links. Tuning Box for one specialise in tuning VW diesels, and I think there is at least another diesel tuner in those links too.

The new APR chip for diesel is meant to be producing 180BHP and 307ft lbs of torque.

Although TBH I do not know if this chip will work on the TDI implementation in the Skoda and as Jon says there are other possible implications. It would definitly be worth contact APR if you want to consider this option.

weird, wrote out a reply, thought i'd posted it, but evidently not as it's not here!

oh well, here goes again..........

steve,

the octavia 110 can be rechipped ( eg. superchips ) or utilise a tuning box as jon has correctly stated. afaik, APR do not cater for this engine with their rechipping.

my last car was a seat leon 110 tdi ( same engine ) in which i installed a tuning box ( www.tuningbox.com ). the character of the car was totally changed and it really was a rapid thing 'for a diesel' !!

the torque increase was phenomenal and even standing starts were unrecognisable from standard. one could make very rapid progress indeed on motorways and A roads. completely different car.......

the upsides to the tuning box:

- used OEM connectors, so no problems fitting ( or taking off ;) ) - 5 minute job.

- adjustable for more power/torque

- not permanent compared to a chip.

- TuV approved

downsides:

- quite crude, but effective

- if over zealous with the adjuster, could get too much black smoke! quite fun sometimes, literally 'smoking' other cars :D , but easy to find happy medium.

i would recommend it definitely.

i still have the tuning box that would fit the octavia. if you fancy buying it from me, give me a shout at any time.

Check out the AmD link; they do the HOPA box which is similar to the TuningBox.

I think the power is up to around 140bhp and the torque is over 200 lbs/ft2. I believe that the overall mpg is unchanged i.e. approx 50mpg but the urban cycle figures are actually improved!

Costs around

So you want the performance of the RS but without plod noticing you?

..tell me again why you don't buy a 4x4? :)

Oh, where to start?

1. Economy

2. He probably isn't a farmer and therefore doesn't need an agricultural vehicle

3. Economy

4. He's a grown up now and doesn't want to play paramedics and nurses anymore

5. Economy

6. Purchase price

7. He gets seasick and couldn't tolerate the rolling motion

8. Economy

9. Insurance

10. He's afraid of heights and all that ground clearance could bring on an attack of vertigo (would be useful to avoid "sumping" )

11. Economy

Enough reasons there for you?

you may recall he was looking at the RS and 4x4.....

<sigh> one day we'll have a grown up discussion!

Go back to the masses, bloody RS's are everywhere!

Site Admin and a Moderator slugging it out - now that's what I call a power struggle!

"Better" performance

in the snow, you're going nowhere.... :)

"Better" VFM

true, it is cheap, but you get what you pay for..

"Better looks" (although this is debatable)

Correct, it does look more max power, if thats what you want ;)

"Better" spec

no, lower spec, more toys on the elegance 4x4... the RS is a classic with better seats (and still no side airbags)

:D

I'm with Ian on this one.

4x4 owners are easier going too, we don't insist on correct names...

RS. vRS, VRS, make your mind up guys! :D

(else we will demand you refer to the 4x4 by it's full title!)

1.8T elegance 4x4 turbo! (estate  )

Don't you mean the "1.8T misnomer 4x4 turbo"? Just what precisely is so elegant about it?

Mine is now, always has been and always will be a RS.

So what is the spec of the "[i:ee5b1e029e]elegance[/i:ee5b1e029e]"?

Headlamp washers.....

Electric tilt \ slide glass sunroof....

Side airbags.......

Central cubby box \ armrest

black trim we can keep clean

ESP...

Independant rear suspension...

4wd

Qcar factor.

..obviously the option of an hatch or estate..

I don't expect the everyone to understand, it's an educated choice.

:D

The Elegance is there for the beholder to see - are you blind or what!!?? And methinks I detect a Feuding Member hiding behind that Moderator title. Another oxymoron, perhaps?

but can i have it in 130BHP diesel or even better 150?

answer:- not yet, as soon as i can i will

Dean

Octavia elegance TDI estate no 4wd (wifes car's got that)

Had the fast car  , had the 11 points on my liscence :( , lost the 11 points :D got an economical car now as i do 50K+ a year  (also got snooper + gps location of speed cameras, and anti reflective number plates :driving: )

As most of you will remember the RS was costin me a bit to run{london traffic-wife with a heavy foot] but i realy missed it and couldnt stand the Fabia. after much thought i decided Not to go down the RS/ 4x4 route .My RSin town was doing 15-17 mpg.The 4x4 less.So the TDI seems the obvious choice.

The TDI has all the toys i want and the running costs too.

Tuning wise im not sure what would be the best way to go :?: HELP :!:

Huck can you e mail me and explain what the tuning box does/enables me to do.

Thanks for everyones help on the chip stuff, im off to check it out.

Steve

  • 1 year later...

has the vrs got a centre armrest yet?

i still have the tuning box that would fit the octavia. if you fancy buying it from me' date=' give me a shout at any time.[/quote']

How much were you looking to get for it , and how did fuel economy suffer?
