Octavia III noise and vibration

Featured Replies

I have a CR140 Scout and besides needing a bit more space, one of my reasons for considering changing to a 4x4 or Scout MkIII is that I don't find the ride or general refinement very good in the current car.

The MkII seems very prone to tyre roar on some roads eg concrete motorways, the engine is always audible, and it doesn't seem to settle on uneven British patch repaired roads. It's not terrible but on long journeys its wearing. I'm conscious the tyres are down to 4mm so that doesn't help on the road noise front.

Does anyone have any experience of changing from the MkII to MkIII who can comment on the relative refinement of the two cars - particularly two CR engines?

Very........................................... what ??????????

The suspense is killing... :giggle:

The interior quality and refinement on the mark III is much better than the mark II , I have moved from a 7 year old mark II elegance hatch (pre-face lift) and the difference is quite significant, overall noise is much lower - engine noise (the 1.4TSI) is a lot less and road noise is reduced as well, and wind noise seems to be virtually absent now. Just about everyone on here who has taken delivery has been impressed by this side of the new car.

All the major reviews from the motoring press have commented on the improved refinement of the new model as well.

Hawkster - did you go from a diesel to petrol?

BTW - I'm not at all saying the Scout is a bad car - in fact it's brilliant. It's just I travel about a lot in taxis and (unfairly) notice Merc E-classes, Passats and even Peugeots are generally quieter.

Ive gone from CR vRS to mk3 1.4 elegance and the mk 3 is much quieter and as yet it doesn't rattle, something the mk2 s always seem to do from new.

But we really can not compare diesels with petrol engines.

New petrols are much quieter than the new diesels, too.

I agree - I had a 1.4 TSI on loan and couldn't get used to the engine being silent on idle!

No petrol all the way for me - I don't do anywhere near enough miles to make a diesel a realistic option. My previous car was a 1.6 FSI petrol - the new 1.4TSI beats it hand down for performance and refinement.

Recently had the use of an Octy III SE 1.4TSI and then an Octy II S 1.2TSI DSG as loan cars. Octy III better in all but one respect, which shouldn't affect a 4x4 anyway and that is the torsion beam rear suspension was too noticeable on the III, the Octy II's rear end felt more controlled and compliant with the road surface.

My take anyway,

TP
