Help me im going mental with this problem !

Featured Replies

Hello all

I have the most annoying problem with my Octavia Vrs TDI ( 2010 ) - As soon as I reach approx. 70-75mph the car begins to make a "howling sound" like airflow hitting something - this continues through the speed up to about 90mph.

I have looked the car over with no obvious defects and I have ( whilst at the speed in question ) switched everything g off and put gearbox into neutral - and nothing changes - the howling noise is still there ?

Can anyone help ? Im going bonkers with this noise as most of my driving is at motorway speeds and its driving me to despair...................borderline chopping the car in and changing it as its that annoying

Thanks

A desparate Vrs driver

Karl

Try looking at the front grill. Eddie.NL had his done on warranty the grill where it joins onto the bonnet lets enough air through to make the howling sound. The dealers ended up taking the grill off and putting some weather strip in there and it has not made any noise since.

Never thought of that ? Im worried though my warranty is void, the 3 years is up in august but I have not had the service done as per the schedule :-(

I had this problem on my FL 2010 Octavia, mine was sorted by a new rubber seal and adjustment to the door so it sealed better. All done under warranty and ok since, it's a known issue according to the dealer I went to.

Cheers

I missed my last service date by a few thousand miles due to work commitments so Im unsure that my warranty is still valid ??

Don't think they'd let a few thousand slide.

Wind noise on the Octy is quite common.

Could be the door mirrors and also rear quarter windows have been reported.

I'd argue that nothing in the service schedule could affect a bodywork gap and that they should cover it? Worth a try at least

Nothing to worry about. It's a built-in safety feature. It warns you about approaching/reaching/just passing the highway speed limit (depending on country).

It gives you the choice of staying below limit or just ignore it and go positively above.

After all, the 75-90Mph range could be considered the "useless speed range", as it's too low to be really, usefully fast but high enough to risk a ticket.
