CREE versus SMD led bulbs on DRL

Featured Replies

Hi,

Still trying different bulbs for my DRLs, both bulbs bought from ebay.

Cree one, not using the reflector, has its own lens

SMD one, multi led

All SMD :)

The Cree one doesn't appear to win this battle!

Try looking at them dusk time, they're very bright! I've posted this picture else where, but it shows just how bright they really are. Notice how the ground is lit up in front of the car.

The SMD wins for me.

DRLs are primarily meant to make the car more visible in daylight. The CREEs are so small they aren't doing a great job of it, eh.

Just seen the pic above.

Posted while I wrote this I suppose.

Low light and a huge difference but you're getting to the point where I'd be thinking about using headlights anyway and the DRLs won't be on.

The Cree ones would be good as reversing lamps but the SMD ones are best as DRL's.

The Crees here seem to be slightly bluish which in my opinion look tacky. Also, the light is not very distributed as is in the case with these LED's here, so LED's is my choice here.

Isn't cree the only place you're safe while playing tag?

I got cree installed as reverse light - It is very noticeable which I guess that is one reason the reverse light is white but doesn't light up the area behind you enough, so not that great. Shame Fabias don't have two - that would make a difference.

You can see it here - only video I got - looks like a laser BUT as I said due to its focusing lens it doesn't despairse light well.

I just got some Cree Q5 bulbs, 10W each. Will be fitting them over the weekend so will update asap. I'm hoping not to get any CANBUS errors or it will be off to get some resistors. Going to sneak a dual tone horn in there while I'm at it ;)

Nice soundtrack on the vid, what is it please?

It could just be that particular bulb as here's another car that's had them fitted and they seem to look okay:- (IMHO of course)

Looking forward to seeing what jonro2009's bulbs are like.

The best solution are the Cree bulbs that have SMD’s mounted around the edge, you get the brightness of the Cree and the SMD uses the reflector.

Job done.

Bulbs fitted with no errors on the dash, great 'white' light emitted. Very clean looking.

Horn in as well, much better sound and fitting was very easy. Made my own connections to slide into original oem socket on the car so I didn't have to cut any wires. ... no warranty issues should there be a problem.

Pictures required....

Will post a picture when I get home.

These are the bulbs I have just fitted to my Monte. I think they look quite good. True to form it's raining up here in the Highlands so the picture is a bit poor :(

Link above is the exact bulbs and seller I used...highly recommend.

FAB1

I hope the picture comes out ok. I have no idea how to upload properly, or resize images so they fit as an upload...can anyone give me an idiots guide, or is there a topic already posted on this that I can find?

Cheers, Jon.

It's ALWAYS better to link to a photo instead of uploading it here. It just makes the photos easier to see.

Here's a link that will explain all.

P.S. Your link is to the horn seller and not the bulb seller.

I hope this has worked properly, please let me know
