Updated turbo for BKD

Featured Replies

I seem to have a habit of destroying turbos! This one has lasted for about 60k. So, I don't have the funds for hybrid or a Darkside budget upgrade, so what I am after is the oem turbo on an exchange basis with strengthened internals rather than higher boost levels like a hybrid. I am sure someone on here posted about one with updated shaft and bearings, can't seem to find it searching from my phone. Does such a thing exist or am I imagining it?

My current option seems to be an exchange unit from Midland Turbos, they have come highly recommended from contacts in the trade.

I used CR turbos for my old PD 140, they made me a Hybrid and it seemed a good job, cant confirm reliability as I traded the car in for my VRS about 6 months later!

Turbo Technics modify the VNT mechanism. The one I have on the car now is on for 300,000kms, its goosed now though. They also give a 2 year warranty.

Is that classed as a hybrid or a standard turbo though?

What kind of price was it?

It is just a standard exchange unit, I think they just modify the clearance of the little vanes which stops them sticking so easily. IIRC it was around 500 quid. The 2 year warranty is a real bonus.

As I said, their turbo has been on my car now for over 300,000kms and has only started to give trouble in the last couple of weeks.

Thanks. I'll check out the price I can get from Midland Turbos and see if they can do anything similar :-)

Thanks Mike, I am after a recon unit with a surcharge on returning the old one. The company I mentioned above are close to my cousin so might even be able to take the old one off and run down there and just swap it there and then.

What have I done - not sure but Stage 1 remaps on the PD140 seem to shorten the life somewhat.........
