Dog Bone Rear Bush Powerflex to Superpro

Well, the vibration has finally got to me :( .

Initially I fitted a Powerflex rear bush and left the front one std (round one). There was some initial cabin vibration that soon disappeared after about 500miles or so.

Recently I replaced the front round bush with a Superpro one (see above pic) as the original one was getting a bit knackered. The vibration through the car returned with a vengence ( tho' only on start up), then disappears as you drive off. To be fair, it did reduce a lot after about 600 miles, but still not for me.

Soooo, took delivery of a new Polybush rear bush today Pt No: SPF 2577- 80K

The 80K refers to the Shore hardness of 80, (ie: bigger the number = less flexable the material).

As there are 3 options 70K, 80K and 90K, I have opted for the middle grade, and will be fitting it in a week or so when I do an oil change. fingers crossed.

When I used a Powerflex (yellow) bush and left the front round one std I found there was (eventually) no cabin vibration and certainly no wheel hopping on a fast take off.

Im running the red rear powerflex (diesel one lesser shore rating) and front powerflex! Very miniscule vibes and thats on a tdi

If you didnt know it was there you probably wouldnt be able to tell

This is something I really need to sort out doing, keep forgetting to sort it though.

Interesting mix of bushes Jase, I found that when the revs are very low initially, the car resonates, even the rear box occasionally resonates.

Yeah my standard dogbone was knackered and someone had tried to remove it in the passed and snapped the bolts

So had to whack it to get it off!

So got a 2nd hand one and did both the bushes while i was at it, also polished it up!

You may have overtightened your rear bush, it isn't ment to go very tight, something like 15NM then 90 degree turn

And i know its assembled incorrectly mocked up (found this when went to fit! Doh!)

Jase you certainly had a challenge there  .

As it was a bit of an unknown for me I used copper grease on all bolt threads just in case

it had to come off again.

Good idea about the tightening torque i'll look it up, thanks.

I thought you might say that......

I just changed mine back from Poweflex to Superpro rear

Here is my summary of my experience.

updated link here :

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/259926-dog-bone-mount-bush-change/page__hl__+dogbone%20+mount#entry3061744

updated summary:

1.Replacement rear powerflex bush = Great start for curing wheel hop and probably enough for most folks

2.Replacement rear Superpro bush = not so hard as powerflex and may be better for folks to mildly upgrade(suit std car)

3.Replacement rear Superpro bush + front inserts = Probably take it to the first option as rear powerflex, good overall improvement with not too much vibration, may cause std front bushes to wear more.

4.Replacement rear powerflex bush + solid front superpro bush = Ultimate in reducing wheel hop and great pull away. Maybe too much Vibration for some folks , expect vibration for few weeks. But does go away.(but not completely

5.Replacement rear Superpro bush + solid front superpro bush = Ultimate in reducing wheel hop and great pull away. No vibration after bedded in at all, as what Powerflex does and no vibration at start up. expect some vibration for few weeks. But does go away. My favorite

"I thought you might say that......

Lol Mark,

All I can say "its an age thing", thats my excuse anyway.

Ere you quote "bedding in" for the Superpro one roughly how many miles ?, the little grey cells cant take much more :( .

Superpro dogbone, TT rear wishbone bush, Superpro front wishbone bush, THS engine mounts, rattled my teeth for about 750 miles then settled in very nicely, little bit of vibration on first start up then calms down once warmed up.

Tightening up to the correct torque is one of the biggest factors effecting cabin vibration...

less then a week buddy...depends on your miles covered

This is very true.

torqued mine to approx 15ibs. Less than that tends to cause more vibration (think i got that right way round)

Over tightening will as well, you're not letting the bush move/flex as it should if you have it so tight it is compressed..

Of course if idle vibes is a problem you can up the idle speed a little with VCDS.

PF rear and SP solid front here.

I only notice when a car hasn't got them these days lol

My old tdi golf ran all 3 vibrateknics mounts!

Was hilarious! Coke can used to dance about like mad in the holder, needed fillings replaced weekly at dentist

My brother changed his on his tdi estate using the diesel powerflex ones. At idle and anything below 2k the vibration through the cabin was terrible. He replaced the whole dog mount with standard after a week

He did not leave it long enough to settle down. They get much better especially the diesel ones.

Sent from my Samsung S3

Well I just changed my rear ones to powerflex (yellow one) and kept the round one standard, and apart from exhaust heat sheild vibrating a little more (until we bolted it back down) there is no vibration in the cabin, certainly feels a lot better on take off now. I followed a guide someone posted on here. I did the captive nut at 20, the 2 bolts that are the same size at 20 and the 2 other bolts at 40, sorry don't know what the bolts are called, but unless it changes over time, I am more than happy with it how it is.

Rear bushes swapped over to Superpro, much better  .

Slight vibration on start up but nothing like it was, hoping this will smooth out.

Powerflex bushes free if collected.

Update: Powerflex Bushes gone to new home
