rear middle seat belt replacement

Featured Replies

I had a bit of an "accident" the other week when i folded my seats down as i needed space from the boot and rear seat area, i went to fold the seat back up and the seatbelt was jammed. No amount of moving it, pushing it, pulling it, twisting it, forcing it or gently persuading it would get the seatbelt to retract back in. Of course this left the seat trapped folded which i couldn't have so i had to cut the seatbelt.

How do i go about replacing this?

I'd imagine you can just deconsruct the seat back, unbolt the seat belt mechanism, unthread from the plastic trim, remove, bolt a new one back on, thread through the plastic trim, put the seat back together.

I'm pretty sure that Sam745 did this to swap black belts for red ones from a Sport model

This one might be the new one you need (I'm pretty sure it'll be the same mechanism in an estate as in a hatch)

nice one Cliff, cheers!

I'll have a look tonight

The Fabia bit's I've deconstructed have been early lap belt ones but the Octy and Golf donors have had central belts.

They look like you should just be able to unbolt the belt unit, swap it for another one and put the whole lot back together.

fingers crossed it's an easy job, got my MOT next week and i'm 110 miles from the dealers!

If you can't get it done in time for the MOT. remove it completely, remove the receiver and as the belt's already cut let it go all the way into the seat so that it's hidden. The centre rear belt isn't required, though if it's fitted and defective it's failable.

it is a pretty ok job to change belts :) just unclip the seat covering and your away ......

As Cliff said above I have done this quite recently and its not too hard. I did have the cover and foam off the seats at the time so access was good. Once you have unclipped the cover you should be able to ease the cover over the headrest supports and seat release. Take off the back section of the seatbelt guide by pulling it up, it is clipped in but should slide out with a bit of force. The front bit should then just pull off the seat. Then try and ease the foam off the headrest supports and the seat release mechanism (this is the tricky bit as the foam is pinched between the seat frame and the seat release mechanism. It may be easier just to hinge the whole lot upwards as its quite robust). Once that is done the seatbelt is held on with one bolt. Undo this and feed the clip through the cover, foam and seat frame to take off. Reassembly is just the reverse.

I think from memory the seatbelt Cliff linked was the correct part number too,

THis is the best photo I have of the seatbelt

I finally got round to doing this over the weekend, it was a 5 minute job! The seatbelt is £128 inc. VAT from the dealers / TPS but i managed to get a full rear bench for £30 and swapped the belts out. Should have done it ages ago...
