Opinions required on best long life oil used, 2.0 tdi pd 5w30?

Featured Replies

Evening all,

What oil do you use and which 5w30 fully synthetic oil is best?

I have a 2.0 tdi pd 140 and have mostly used Quantum 5w30 in the past.

Please list brand of oil, engine and price if possible:

Quantum 5w30 507 5 Litre Fully Synthetic, £28.99.

Quantum longlife III 507.00 spec on my 2.0 PD. £28. It's made my Castrol for VAG, so why use anything else!

Anything, as long as it has the VW 507.00 spec on the container.

Halford's own brand 5W30 is well priced and meets the above spec.

Use Mobil1 'ESP' 5w30 here. Not sure of price off the top of my head as I bought it from Opie last year as part of a service kit offer and ECP this year when on offer.

Anything, as long as it has the VW 507.00 spec on the container.

£24 with a trade card or I think £32 retail before any promotions.

Quantum for me, 32 quid from my local tps my local stealer Simpsons wanted 76 quid for 5x1 litres of castrol edge! Apparently its "much better" than quantum... Right.

Used quantum, castrol, shell and mobil 1 esp.

All vw507 and all look the same after 10k, with the quantum and mobil one being slightly cleaner (less powdery feel) after a full 18.5k service. The full length ones were different vehicles though so I think that means little.

Personally I use quantum and mobil1 esp as the later is bmw approved too.

I'd say anything vw507 is fine so save your money and get any approved oil. Spend what you save on high quality or oem filters.

Given how quickly the car seems to get through oil, the idea of using "long life" oil seems a total misnomer. Halfords brand, and whatever quotes the VW numbers is what goes in.

TPS had longlife III on offer last week - £17.99+VAT
