The police

Looks like some of the latter might have taken a dislike to you having a better car than them and have decided you fit the profile of a troublemaker.

I really doubt they'd be jealous of a 10 year old Octavia.

No offense intended to the OP, but it's not like it's anything special.

I've been stopped a few times. 3 times I was in the car, each time the copper had a bit of a chip on his shoulder initially. I just answer his questions politely and with respect (as I have been raised) and within a few minuties his tone changed and we getting on like a house on fire. Happened each time, pretty much exactly the same. I suspect every time they tug a modified car (round here at least) they get a load of verbal and attitude, so while they shouldnt come at you/me with any preconceptions I can understand why they do.

On the flip side when I was pulled over in a bus, they were friendly and polite in the outset. Either way, I dont have a issue being pulled over, they are looking for crime, if they pull 10 people over and find 1 person is a dealer selling drugs to kids then I'm more than happy. It takes a few moments from my life, I leave myself plenty of time to get places, no biggy if I'm stopped for a bit.

When i first got my mk2 octy vrs i was 22. Pulled over easily once a month and quite clearly followed few times by the rozzers. I just took it on the chin they are only doing their job. Not been pulled for a while now :-)

Wasnt driving like a tool either!

No one has yet mentioned that a police officer in uniform does not need a reason to stop a vehicle being driven on a public road. Of course, it's good practice to say why you've stopped the car (in most cases) and if they are going to search you or the car they are obligated to tell you :-

Grounds for the search

Objects being sought (e.g. drugs, stolen goods etc)

Warrant card must be produced if requested

Identification including which

Station they are from

You are Entitled to a copy of the search record.

Spells GOWISE :-)

Ohhh i remember that from training school..... another example of how to alienate the police from the public. 99% of people you say that to either think your taking the mick or take you as acting like a robot.

Officers should just be natural and talk normally to people, whats wrong with "hello sir, thanks for pulling over, ive pulled you because you have a brake light out" " i can smell cannabis fella so im going to search you and your car under the misuse of drugs act"

Never had a problem

I used to get pulled all time in my volvo, youg lad with powerful car,

Touch wood not be stopped yet in vrs yet even been out and about at some funny times

Gwilo, both times ive been pulled on halifax road smallbridge/wardle area where i live. Technically the pull this morning was on my street 30yrds from my door but they saw me on halifax road both times.

Just to make it clear i have no problems with any police force in general, i even applied to be a police officer a few years back. ive been pulled before on the motorway while leaving the services, once they confirmed i was the owner and checked my tyres i was on my way and some car based banter between me and the officer, no problems. It was just these two this morning that had a serious problem with me.

They can ask for the reg to be run though the intelligence systems whilst on the move, they should only really PNC it if your committing moving traffic offenses or they have pulled you over.

I would suggest they saw your car in the early hours and either there are markers on the intel system from the previous owner or they completed all the PNC checks whilst checking out your license etc at the side of the road

I think Brownbarge mentioned something about a seat belt in the first post, could this have qualified?

With regards to them being jealous of a 10 year old VRS, I highly doubt it and that sort of attitude will get you stopped and incovieneced even more so.

Take it for wat it is, a random stop check of a young male driving a fast car that's getting on a bit so possibly unroadworthy late at night/early in the morning.

You've missed L and Y from the end GO WISELY

Lawful ie what section of law

You are detained for the purpose of the search ie you cannot leave and they can do it by force if needs be (must be justified though)

I'd agree wholeheartedly, but from past experience of Rochdale's rozzers, some tke it upon themselves to judge who should be driving what car and if they don't feel it's not right, you will have more than one chat with them by the roadside.

For the record, my seatbelt was on. Always is. I took it off to get out and speak to them.

I didn't say you weren't, I was questioning whether any suspicion you weren't would have been sufficient for conducting the check.

I don't think anyone thinks you're being disrespectful in any way and as you rightly state there are ways in which people expect to be dealt with. As suggested it might just be worth ringing your local nick and registering your displeasure at the manner in which you were spoken to.

No seatbelt is always a good enough reason for a stop.

I sincerely doubt any of that, more along the lines of certain vehicles tend to be used by certain people who commit either crimes or unsociable behaviour ie VRS drivers driving like lunatics, same as the old Corsa and Astra SRis used to. It's certainly not that the police feel jealous or that you shouldn't drive that car.

5am.

Housing estate.

vRS.

Pulled over.

+

Attitude.

Extra checks and anything else to make the experience as unenjoyable as possible.

There was no attitude!

For 2 months I was getting pulled over at least 3 times a week, sometimes got just a routine check, once it was due to braking too hard for a roundabout and sometimes didn't get a reason, after 2 months haven't been pulled over. Quite an easy reason in my case as it started just after I started going out with my now wife, who's an ex police man's daughter lol

In my case they have always been polite

I doubt any normal person would have a prob with that. But it doesn't sound like that what the OP got.

I would of been happy with that but without the cannabis of course lol.

I find peoples true personality come out when they get the uniform on. I grew up on a council estate where i work so i talk like one of the locals lol

If theres a marker on my car surely a normal panda van doesnt have anpr? As neither times ive been pulled have been by traffic officers and i doubt they can radio threw to control and get details in about 10seconds?

All of my local forces cars have front anpr and recording. Traffic have front & rear.

I sincerely doubt any of that....... It's certainly not that the police feel jealous or that you shouldn't drive that car.

That's the expectation and you may not respond that way in your professional duties. I'd agree that the general standard of professionalism is very high and suitably even-handed and I wouldn't want to impugn police as a whole.

Personal experience of specific GMP law enforcement operatives in the locality of the OP directly contradicts your general belief however.

I thought this was going to be about Sting.....
