Fabia vrs loosing coolant

Featured Replies

After some advice if anybody can help

I've an 07 vrs se on 52k. Last year on the odd occasion the coolant light came on when starting the car on a morning. Topped the coolant up and away we go no problems. It had just dipped below the min mark.

Recently it's started doing it more often and this morning it needed nearly half a bottle of coolant to get back up to the max line.

I can't see any leaks under the bonnet nor have I ever see any in the floor.

Is there anything I can do / check before I go to a garage for a pressure test?

Thanks!

I have the same vrs se 07 56k miles and it was the Radiator £108 plus VAT Labour 1.5 hours plus coolant £238

I have since found out it is the plastic to metal tubes failed :-(

In the morning after the car has been standing cold, open up the coolant bottle slowly and check if you hear a hissing sound (sort of like opening a bottle of coke) if you do their could be a build up of pressure in the system and the water could be being lost out of the overflow. A couple of things could cause that.

One way to double check is fill up the bottle to the correct level when cold, go for a hard drive, high revs etc, come back after a short trip and see if there is a mess of coolant around the bottle.

Not a definite answer but with coolant loss its a matter of trial and error for quick tests, the fault could be anything from a faulty thermostat to a radiator or head gasket it seems

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll do some investigations tonight

Headlift. Pressurising the coolant and forcing it out the tanks as chillie says.

I thought mine was losing coolant as the level drops to minimum. I noticed it a few months back but when I opened the header tank it quickly went back up to max after pressure release.

I expect it may be head gasket on its way out as it shouldn't be so pressurised when cold, hasn't needed topped up yet and a couple of times a week I release the pressure and the coolant returns to normal.

I had a slight coolant loss priblem after having a larger turbo. I suspected it may be head lift so had PD150 head bolts fitted and it stopped straight away.
