Which model have you ordered / going to order?  Does it have twin halogen or bi-xenon lights with AFS?

If the latter then the following extract is in the owners manual (Lights - p.50):

Tourist light

This mode makes it possible to drive in countries with opposing traffic system

(driving on the left/right) without dazzling the oncoming vehicles.

When the “tourist light” mode is active, the above-mentioned modes and the side

swivel of the headlights is deactivated.

The "Tourist light" mode can be configured in the Infotainment

» operating instructions

for Infotainment

, chapter Setting vehicle systems (CAR button).

And here in the owners manual (Driving Abroad - p.130):

Headlights

First read and observe the introductory information given on page 130.

The low beam of your headlights is set asymmetrically. It illuminates the side of

the road on which the vehicle is being driven to a greater extent.?

When driving in countries in which the traffic drives on the other side of the road

than in your home country, the asymmetrical low beam may dazzle oncoming

drivers. To prevent oncoming traffic from being dazzled, the headlights must be

adjusted by a ŠKODA Partner.

You can adjust the Xenon headlights yourself by setting the "tourist light" mode

in Infotainment

» Operating instructions for Infotainment, chapter Setting vehicle

systems (button CAR)

Note

Further information on adjusting the headlights is available from a ŠKODA Partner.

Mk1 and Mk2 halogen lights have been adjustable via a mechanism in the back of the headlight unit - however no info in the Mk3 handbook yet...

In answer to your question, if you have the xenon lights in 'tourist mode' your front lights should pass the 'light test' in Germany.  Again not too sure how the tourist mode works on the new Mk3 bi-xenon lights.  On Mk2 Octavia with the single beam xenons the tourist mode flatbeams, but on the new Audis with bi-xenons that I have seen it just drops the overall beam pattern so that the kick-up to the LHS falls below the permissible limit.

I would expect that the rear fog lights will still have to be switched using the dealer diagnostic system - my local Skoda/Seat dealer did this FOC when I bought a litre of top up oil; friends have been charged €10 to do this (note: VW/Audi dealer in the same town tried to charge €60 to do this switch on my Golf!)

I hope this helps.

thats good to know. im also in Germany and fancy a vrs. but having to buy lhd zenons would be a deal breaker for me.

and I got charged over €100 to get my foglight done on my yeti by my local skoda dealer...my fault for not noticing when I picked it up in uk. thanks anyway Canterbury skoda!!

rant over. I feel better now!

I've got an Elegance HB on order with Bi Xenon's and like you said I wouldn't have ordered if I couldn't of switched them over. Getting to the point i'm going to speak to Daniel at Canterbury prior to collection to see about them switching over the fog lights - surely it'll cost them next to nothing to do, they could probably do it during the PDI. I'll let you know what happens...

Regards

Richie

Richie,

they should sort out the foglight as part of the handover. they forgot to do it last year. I didn't realise until I went in for the light check in stc!

also they left the service indicator on fixed which luckily I noticed at the time. they just plugged in the computer and re set it.

thats what happens when you pick up a car after driving through the night!
