Sound proofing

Finally, it's arrived & I've fitted it. Most odd-looking bit of foam junk I've seen, and similarly, what the SEAT parts dealer guy had seen.

Blimmin expensive for how it looks ;)

Basically it's a bit of foam with another bit of foam attached on two metal clips (so it can be angled). You take the engine cover off (pull forward and flip slightly upwards, then pull past the oil filler cap thing).

Feed the foam into place. It will be fairly obvious how to fit it, having had a look at where the gaps are it became clear :)

In my case I'd just had a little driving behind it and the engine was hot, but I was able to fit it without the danger of burning myself with a bit of care. Took about 5 mins, which included pushing the foam down properly, feeding it round front/back and the tubing and what have not around the block.

Put the cover back, and started the engine.

The difference - it's more muted clatter, even with bonnet open. Still a diesel, still a PD system, so not silent, but more muted. Surprised about the difference in town and motorway, not massive but noticable.

I've also got the kit from Soundkiller for the Fabia, as fitted by Steve. He didnt do the doors, if I ever get brave I will do them too.

This means I've spent a fair amount on soundproofing now, but the car seems more sophisticated in it's background noise now. Road noise is still very much noticable due to the tyres. Rest of the car is a LOT better.

Although it's a strange part, must admit the difference was bigger than expected. The delivery took almost two weeks to come through as it wasnt in stock, but for the 5 minutes fit, no tools required, it's not bad at all.

Hopefully I will be able to charge my camera and take a snapshot with the cover off.

I fitted mine yesterday...

Like you said, it's more muted than silenced.

At high revs, it's a lot quieter than it used to be... Almost offputting!

But, I like it. Although for

It seems to get rid of the clattery stuff a little, but it's strange as the effect of putting this stuff in was very noticable. Weird :D

It's expensive for sure, but then if I compare it with the soundkiller stuff, that wasnt cheap either. In comparison the value for money isn't all too bad, and it's a five minute fit.

Speaking of sound proofing - what do you reckon on that undertray thing, will that need sound absorbing stuff on it?
