175k mile 04 VRS - ownership strategy for the next 30k?

Featured Replies

I've had my 2004 VRS for 5 years and its currently at 175k miles. It runs really well at the moment and is completely standard.

Its not been cheap to run in terms of maintenance repairs. I've had a new turbo and engine skim + new head gasket. Repairs and maintenance (excluding tyres & MOT) has been around £100 per month on average. It on the original clutch and flywheel and the car in general is a nice condition, even the seats are bright and clean!

At the moment the only downsides are: clonky ride over even surfaces (not that much of an issue as I do 100 miles a day on the motorway), blown LH front speaker and a weird pulsing noise during acceleration above 70. Still runs really well, pulls like a train.

I still really like it and I would rather not spend a big chunk of savings on a newer car. What would people suggest I do above the 10k oil, air and fuel filter changes to prolong its life? It'll always have to to 30k miles a year, although these are almost always on the motorway.

regular servicing is the main thing tbh. Warm up before giving the beans, cooled down after spirited drives/long drives.

Inspection Servicing is very expensive. Changing the oil/air/fuel filer much less so. As soon as something sounds off, I get it seen too.

My usage is:

Started at 6:30AM. 1 mile at 40mph, 48 miles at 70mph, 1 mile at 40mph, off, Repeat at 5pm

Rev it up for a short period while warm once every few days.
