Wing Mirror help!

Featured Replies

Have to park on the road at work so I normally fold my wing mirror in on the drivers side. Come back to it today and when I unfolded it the glass dropped out and smashed on the floor it was intact as it was falling and there is no damage to the Mirror housing so I don't think anyone's knocked it. I think its probably the heat has melted the adhesive and that's why its dropped out as it seems as if it was only stuck via a very small contact patch. :sun:  Question is do I just get some mirror glass and glue it in? Can I unclip the motorised back plate that the glass is glued to and refit a new one complete as the Demisting element went ages ago so this might fix that or should I just get a full wing mirror from the scrappers and just rob the bits I need. At least then I can be a bit hand fisted with it taking it to bits without risking mine. I will then know the best way to get in at mine if that makes sense. Anyone else had this problem? Can you shed any light on the best approach.

Just over £10 on eBay for an OE replacement (pre-FL Octavia). OVI-Autos I got mine from (item number: 160919392824 for the passenger side).

I've got both to fit before winter.

They are prone to the glass coming unstuck from the heating element and falling off. My driver's side is about to go any month now.

There are a number of descriptions on here about how to actually replace them.
