That won't work has to be within reasonable distance.

As t happens I have an audi a4 2.4 v6 sat in me back garden waiting for the scrap man to come, I was idly pondering on how easy it would be to shove that in the back of a pickup, I even got the angle grinder out... But I didn't do anything with it mind you, I have figured out how it would be done though.

Could work in a hatchback too possibly.

Depends what's classed as reasonable ;)

Unless they have amended it since, the vehicle excise and registrations act makes no reference to how far away is considered a reasonable distance.

I've just looked it up, it makes absolutely no reference whatsoever about the distance you can travel for the test.

Vehicle excise and registrations act 1994, schedule 2

22(1)A vehicle is an exempt vehicle when it is being used solely for the purpose of—

(a)submitting it (by previous arrangement for a specified time on a specified date) for a compulsory test, a vehicle identity check, a vehicle weight test or a reduced pollution test, or

(b)bringing it away from any such test or check].

(1A)A vehicle is an exempt vehicle when it is being used solely for the purpose of—

(a)taking it (by previous arrangement for a specified time on a specified date) for a relevant re-examination, or

(b)bringing it away from such a re-examination.]
