Put down a deposit on a Superb 1.8TSI

Featured Replies

.... it is unfortunately 110miles from me and so I will be looking next week. I have to travel with work this week :(

It''s 55k miles, 1.8TSI Petrol, Elegance (fully loaded) and so was wondering what I should be looking for when I do go looking at it?

I do 12-15k a year but think the petrol is probably a better bet (especially after the problems I have had with my Octavia).

Thanks

Smoke from the rear, make sure the oil is good and at the right level and check the water tank for discolouration,

Listen for the Turbo spooling up, if it's like a siren walk away

Car should feel lively under pedal, check the clutch pedal bites midway, if it's near the top that's a £1000 bill soon

As it's an Elegance check the headlight bulbs look good, if they are purpleish or dull it may need a new bulb soon and they ain't cheap.

Are you buying from a Skoda dealer? If so, ask them to update the Columbus sat nav unit to latest firmware and latest maps.

Also check driver's seat side bolsters for wear - others have posted on this forum that they can wear and get damaged.

Check the heated seats heat up both your bum AND your back - press the button once and it will show 3 lights, the highest setting.

If you can find somewhere dark then you can test the intelligent headlights. When you start the car turn the lights dial to auto, and providing it is dark enough for the lights to be activated then you should the xenons' beam do a little dance in front of you. Up/down and left/right.

Also check for chrome "milking" on the window surrounds and front/rear Skoda badges.

Thanks Guys.

It is from a Skoda approved dealer and so will come with a 12mth Skoda warranty (which is a great relief!).

I will check all those things when I'm up there. I just need to work on the price with them!

What I haven't been able to work out on a Superb is whether the rear seat bolsters lift to allow the rear seats to fold flat.

I don't think many cars come with the squab lift function anymore, the way to tell normally is there will be a pull strap on each bolster near the belt anchors but the seats fold pretty flat anyway on modern cars, saves you having to mess about with headrests as well,

If you have any doubts regarding the rest of the car get an inspection done on it.

Thanks Guys.

If it's an estate, the squabs lift. As far as I know, the squabs on the twin door, whilst not exactly permanently fixed, are not intended to be tipped forward.

In the estate, pull the front of the seat base up and backwards, then pull forward from the back of the seat base. You need to remove the headrests for the seats to fold completely flat.
