What is the point of those lights

Featured Replies

Drove last night in the dark, and noticed. Couple of lights pointing down from the main light cluster onto the area around the gearstick.

Is this just for aesthetics?? If not, what are they for??

Is there a way of controlling them?

They're submarine lights and may be controlled by the dash lighting.

They're submarine lights

It's incase you put sh1te tyres on and end up in a river  :giggle:

I suppose that in Auric's case, they're for a Yellow Submarine then?

They create an ambient glow when its dark inside the cabin, makes the controls easier to see and read in the dark. The Superb MK2 also has the same lights, as does my 2001 Audi (although mine are red).

This is also on golf 6 and 7. I dreamed at these but did not go out in the dark to see everything it got

Stupid as it sounds, those lights aided my decision to go for an Octavia. The bathe the centre of the cabin in a lovely soft glow, and make the whole night driving experience a lot more relaxing. I had them on my last two Bimmers, but missed them on the Laguna coupe I had until recently, and they don't have them on the Golf MkVII, which is a shame.

Well done Skoda I say!

nice feature skoda keep it up!!!

I had that in the Audi, but only because I paid for the Ambient Light Pack.  I haven't been out after dark in the Octy yet, so I am very impressed to hear that they are standard

Some people want them and check them to be sure. And some like us question the utility

In the Superb, their brightness is controlled inline with the dashboard lighting.

I suspect that the Octavia would operate in the same way.

my old bmw 1 series had them, i thought it was a great idea and still miss not having them.

Drove for the first time last night when it was dark enough to notice them and I quite like them.

.... and they don't have them on the Golf MkVII, which is a shame.

I thought that the Golf had at least the option to have something akin to LED strip lights (aka BMW 5 series) which are an even better thing to have.

The Golf GT has an ambient lighting pack which gives you those strip lights in the door cards, but I didn't like those anywhere near as much as the down-lighting effect.

All down to personal preference I know!

What I really like here is people's joy to present premium cars as standard options for cars that are 1/3 of the premium ones.
