Winns Power steering leak stop

Featured Replies

well, i was just about to use this but realised it might not be suitable for my car.

could anyone confirm if i could use this as it simply says its suitable for 'Ford, Dexron LHM or equivalent specifications of ATF oil'

Cheers.

if you have a leak then really you should cure it rather than putting a bottle of gunk in

I agree with the above....

But VAG cars seem to have a specific powerd steering fluid (green mineral fluid) so that might not be suitable no.

I filled my Golf with ATF red fluid, the colour really has no bearing on end use, if it is leaking just tip it in, what is the worst than can happen?  You will have to find the leak eventually.

Oh dear... do you fill gearbox's with old engine oil as well?

i know i should cure it, but fund at this min dont allow. bigjase has suggested this with no ill effects before, so  hence why ive taken this route...

Who mentioned engine oil in a gearbox? I thought the thread was about a power steering rack....

Thisday, where is the oil leaking from? if it is from the track rod rubbers then the seals have gone on the steering rack, this is caused by the common fault of corroded chrome parts in the rack, no amount of leak stop will stop this leaking, if it is not from here I would give it a try.

I think ACS in Tamworth offer a service exchange steering rack for about £125 with a £50 returnable deposit when they get your old rack back.

It is an easy enough job, just a bit fiddly.

tbh i dont know. just havinf to top up fluid for second time in about 12-18mth....awaiting growns of disapproval...

so it must have gone somewhere...

i keep meaning to check steering rack, as that seems the most common fault but havent had chance yet...thanks for the link btw

my guess is that it is filling up the rubber gators on the track rods as there is no oil visible.

Will check when I get under the car thanks.

Decided against using the leak stop, as didn't want to knacker anything my using it when its not that in convenient at the min to top up once a year till I get round to sorting it.

If your car uses mineral fluid using ATF will knacker the seals out before too long. Also leak stopper can knacker the electro hydraulic pump.

I was told that the only difference is the colour, I use fully synthetic ATF, if it needs changing I will have to do so as I was unaware of another special oil used by VAG.

These potions don't work just get the leak repaired properly is the way to go in my experience
