If this is the case the Yeti will be the only VAG model left on the old platform. To show how VW works the new Golf 7 is available with a 150 bhp engine with multi-link rear suspension and the anti-collision front radar as standard which reduces your Insurance by 3 groups. On the other hand the New Leon only gets the multi-link with 180 bhp and above and the anti-collision is not available as an option. This makes the Leon more expensive than the Golf....direct competitor...clever or what!.......... :think:

I'm going to be a bit more blunt.................you are talking rubbish.

By your "logic" the Golf would have been totally replaced every 3 years, which obviously hasn't happened!

And Peugeot would have run out of numbers!!

The Yeti is not built on a "platform" per se...  It is a mismatch of this and that (Passat, Audi TT, Polo, and more).  And as such can be built for some time with bits from the common VAG parts bin.

 

As to the Golf VII:  models below 120hp get the simple suspension and ones with output above that get the multilink.  On the SEAT only models above 150hp get the better suspension.

 

 

 

 

 

Economies of scale mean car companies have to sell the same platform / car for at least six years to make a profit on their huge investment.  There is NO WAY VAG will replace the Yeti after being on sale for only 4 years.  No matter what sort of suspension it might have.  This will be, as Llanigraham said, a FACELIFT.  The next totally new Yeti will only appear six to seven years after this one was launched (which was 2009, so expect the new one in 2015 at the earliest).  

 

If as you said it  "costs much less to produce a new platform than keep the old one" why don't we have a new platform for every car out there every two years?!  So that statement makes zero sense I'm afraid.  No company can amortize their investment on a car in less than six years AND it takes many years to design, test and type approve a new car.

 

 

Because they have new platform now, thats why after the introduction of the platform every due model multilink disappears. After 20 + years of production, so pls dont threat Yeti platform as a something new only 4 yeras. They killed Golf 6 after 3 years of production(scale of economy, right). Just take a look at VW balance sheet since mentioning here economy terms how much debt they loaded now its time to service it. They will axe the multilink, reduce the fuel consumption on Yeti since it will be lighter 100+kg on the new platform. I will be surprised if my statement makes zero sense at the end.

True johann, the Golf V1 was introduced quickly because the Golf V was too expensive to manufacture. They could make a Golf V1 six hours quicker than a Golf V. It seems to me that VW control their range as not to compete against each other and yes the Yeti will probably be only a facelift this time.... :happy:

Just my two pence worth on this.

 

  • The cost of the R&D (CAPEX) is huge to develop an all new car.
  • Cost to build a car is the highest OPEX cost
  • Mid life face lift tends to be restricted to front and rear to 'brighten' up the car
  • Fewest external panels are changed as possible with small internal changes
  • Cost savings in both material and assembly are introduced during manufacture of the face lift model (this does not usually equate a drop in quality)
  • The cost of reduced testing for a face lift car is a lot less than an all new model even if the platform has been proven on other vehicles. There is a lot more to a car than the platform.

When we see the Yeti II it is likely to have the MQB platform (after any the niggles are ironed out) however the I think the twist beam rear will only apply to the 2WD versions as I think the 4WD set up is not compatible with the twist beam design as it stands regardless of power output. In regular driving you are unlikely to notice the difference anyway.

I wonder when we'll find out what the 'quality and engine upgrades' are?  Probably too late, I suppose, to put an order in for the current version if they don't suit.

Autoexpress wrote it'll have the new Octavia tech and engines.

But as it's based on the old platform and is just a facelift I'm not 100% convinced.

Octavia tech is bound to MQB...  so the electronic wiring and harness etc goes hand in hand with a platform.  As you say, with the Yeti not being MQB, I find it highly unlikeley the FL Yeti will get the latest MQB based Octavia tech - especially Adaptive Cruise Control.  Which is the one thing I'd love to have as well.  Incidentally on the Golf VII they ALL get the emergency brake assist "eye" at the front which meant on the Golf GTI for example the insurance grouping has falled FIVE GROUPS.  Just because of that eye.

Heard some rumors about the Yeti-FL from two Skoda dealers in Norway. Both said that there are probably going to be two versions of the Yeti-FL, one city version which will come with body coloured bumpers and chrome decor while the other will be an off-road version. This will be on the lines of the VW Tiguan which also has a city oriented version called Sport & style and a more off-road oriented version called Track & style.

They said the production of the Yeti-FL was due to start towards the end of the year (around November) and the deliveries would commence soon after. 

 

As a potential buyer I hope they unveil it at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Although it will be interesting to get confirmation of what the FL looks like, I think we have a a pretty good idea of that already.

But what many of us are interested in, I suspect, is confirmation of the detailed UK specification and options list (ie what SUK will actually allow us to order). The details here possibly won't be certain until the first FL brochure becomes available, whenever that might be, but perhaps not for another 4-6 months. (And even then no-one will be surprised if there still aren't errors and uncertainties that won't be 100% resolved until the first orders and deliveries are made.)

Yes, I am more interested in what the new price/spec will be than I am in where the front foglights will end up (I do like the original position though). The Yeti started from under £14k at launch but I suspect it will be closer to £16k for the facelift. This would be a great shame because I used to drive around in my 1.2 S TSI feeling smug at how much car I had bought for the money. We'll see....

Don't expect the L&K to be so keenly priced on the FL.  That model was created specifically to make most people buy that and simplify the run out cars from the factory whilst they gear up for the FL.  That is also why there are so many Urban and Adventure spec models which are all pre-ordered by SUK with no possibility for options.  So come FL expect the L&K to be much dearer I think and all the rest to each be about £600 or so more expensive (going by what other facelifted cars normally go up in price to pay for the "additional kit" we are hoping it will feature).

I think i'd concur with what johann says.

Most of the facelifted models that are similar to the yeti in terms of demographic, if nothing else, have all had a fairly hefty price shove.

I think part of the issue is, or so i read, that this particular demographic is the one that is the best selling and is therefore getting milked.

I do agree with Johann but there is one thing we may be missing. When Skoda came out with the Superb-FL they implemented the GreenTec features on many of the engines which reduced the CO2 emmissions by a significant amount.  In Norway and possibly many other countries this would offset the increase in prices of the FL models quite a bit. The new Octavia is a completely different platform with completely new engines but due to the lower CO2 emissions of all engines each version of the Octavia is actually cheaper to buy now compared to the previous Octavia that was sold in Norway.

Unfortunately these are very badly photoshopped photos.... the vehicle has been laid (very poorly) onto a different background in all those pictures.

Whilst this may indeed be the new strtched Yeti - with hints to the facelifted European version,  I wonder what else is different from the real thing? A & C Pillar trims? Unlikely to have the door hung spare wheel, for all the reasons that have been explained here previously.
