Even Plod are trying to get in on the act!

Featured Replies

In town one day, we were approached by a police officer, as our Superb was parked outside a shop.

Anyhow, apparently they are seriously looking into bring Superbs on the fleet (They already have some Octy vRS's). He was asking what we thought of it, and even asked to sit in it to see if he could get a comfortable driving position. Apparently he was a tall chap, and the Focus gives him neckache.

Seems that Skoda's are well regarded by the boys in blue. Presumably, as the Superb is built for comfort, they'll have to tinker with suspension/engine etc to make it more suitable?

The local fuzz use Superbs as driving school cars round here. They also use them as surveilance vehicles as they are annonymous and store a lot of kit and are comfortable for the 3 man teams during hours of surveilance.

I here they wont use them as marked cars coz the back is too big, giving prisoners to much space to kick off.

Wiltshire have been using them for ages + Octy VRSs.

SWMBO was coming out of the hairdressers today' date=' to be approached by a member of Avon & Somerset constabulary, as our Superb was parked outside.

Makes sense to me. I'd rather the police drove Skodas than some of the high-end hardware they have in Durham and Northumberland - coppers in Merc E Classes, BMW 5 series, Range Rovers, Discos, Imprezas, the lot.

And IIRC UK plod don't 'tinker with' any of their vehicles. To do with insurance I believe.

Nah some of them are fettled with. Manufacuter uprates a few bits and bobs.

Wouldnt surprise me if so came remapped & uprated brakes - of course with warranty :(

Copper told me once that the Merc riot van he was driving wasn't exactly standard under the bonnet...

Wouldn't surprise me if the cop cars are fettled with - they're already poverty spec inside as it is!

They usually have uprated shocks, and remapped. Brakes are usually changed to cope with more severe enviroments.

Yep the police round here have some rediculous expensive cars, as you say BMW 330, 5 series, C, E and ML Class Mercs plus the Volvos. Cleveland are a bit more sensible with their Cash, got a few Octy VRSs in silver.

Avon & Somerset used Vauxhall Omegas for a few years, but now they seem to be into Mercedes, as they have a few E-Class estates and M-Class. Must have too much money to spend on vehicles!

To say car manufacturers throw them at police is an understatement.I was told one force gets

Watch out for an unmarked silver Superb now on duty in the Taunton area.

(Ours is silver, so perhaps we'll get even more people slowing down in front of us, and looking nervously in their mirror!)

Are those wheel trims? skinflints

Police cars almost always have steel wheels -they don't break so easily if you bump over kerbs, and they're cheaper to replace if you do.
