Wing mirror clean / repair?

Featured Replies

I have stripped my wing mirrors as they were filthy inside the indicator lens, & probably failed at a time when I had no spare time.

Also had to re-stick one front back on to the heat pad. For this I used contact adhesive??????????

Unsure what is best to use to re-seal the (re-sprayed) reflective bulb housing, back onto the main outer lens, (I had to break it apart literally very carefully)  to give a best weather seal, whilst also enduring the rigours of our great British climate.

Was thinking either superglue or clear silicone. Any better ideas.??????? (apart from, get a life)

Cheers.

Be warned that this should be done inside so it can set....

Agree very strong stuff. Filled aerial holes in a car roof with this stuff (obviously had something underneath to stop is pouring into the car) and has never cracked or caused problems.

If you do it in this decent weather spell then will get away with having to do it inside if that's a problem

Cheers guys. I have some of this, but discounted it knowing it is messy even if you are careful with application, as it will be visible just inside the lens, if it runs slightly, and also quite tricky on this application, as you only have a few minutes after mixing it to complete the job.

I have done one now, just this morning and it doesn't look too bad. I am (unfortunately) a perfectionist though and would have liked a better job, but it is ok.

Saved me £20 each side though. May as well do the other side with this now, but just apply slightly less on the front. It's just getting enough to ensure it is watertight whilst not applying too much that it runs down the lens inside.

Cheers again, & happy motoring.
