Octavia 110 quicker than Furby vRS?

Featured Replies

Well, if it has a cheap analogue tuning box and a green panel filter

On dual c/way the other evening behind a Seat Ibiza TDI. I pulled onto the fast lane in 3rd at about 40mph to overtake. I wasn't flooring the car. Then he pulls out in front of me and floors it. I did the same, and to my surprise i matched him through 3rd and started gaining (slightly - 1 car length) towards the end of 4th. We then got caught up in traffic and the fun stopped.

I am assuming this newer shape Ibiza was a 130bhp sport. It was clean and untampered with.

Anyway, since the furby and ibiza use the same engine, then that means the Octy would do the same with a vRS. Or, isn't the furby heavier than the Ibiza, therefore the Octy would make more of an impression in these gears at these speeds. :P

Tuning box well worth the

Hmm - tuning box would take the Octy over 140 bhp roughly, so that would 'beat the 130'.

The Octy will drive away from the Furby once you hit 3 figures. Below that it's going to be too close to call. Tuning box may allow it to rev higher up and of course, more torque, so it may therefore beat it :)

Now had you said PD130 Octy vs PD130 Furby, both with the same tuning box on it ;)

More likely aerodynamics play a part there.

And stick the same on a Furby and it will easily win ;)

110 + Jabba map = 164 :):):)

somehow regularly beats 180 bhp TT's :):):):):):):):):)

I kept up with an Ibiza FR when I had my Fabia. Think he was a bit bemused when I parked next to him at work and I didn't have vRS badges ;)

I haven't had the car rolling roaded, and the tuning box has been left with default setting. I reckon the car is running about 136-140 bhp.

But what about all the claims that the 130 PD engines are under estimated, and that its not uncommon to produce 145bhp?

And surely the Octavia must weigh a bit more than the Furby?

I test drove a Furby vRS a few weeks back and it felt very fast, and much more responsive than the Octy. Maybe it is the way the power kicks in, but i was sure it was faster than my own car.

Probably BS.

Its geared to feel fast.

I think that it's just down to the driving skills or was that stupidity level when chasing one another along the Queens highway. Also the Octvia seems a lot more slippery going through the air. Did you have the Taxi sign on or was it in the boot.:rofl:

I believe on a reliable set of rollers, eg JBS', the standard car comes in around 130bhp as expected. The Mondeo guys also reckon their 130 TDCi is 145bhp after a few months of running it in

A standard 110 Octavia can only just beat a PD100 Fabia. :)

With a decent tuning box it's a different story, I can easily leave my wife behind. ;)

At higher speeds the more aerodynamic Octavia should slowly pull away from a Fabia even if they had the same power, with a good tuning box and panel filter giving over 140bhp then the Octy should indeed pull away from a standard vRS Furby.

At lower speeds it will be a lot closer as the Furby will still have more torque and less weight. The 110's gearing is quite low compared to the 5 speed Furby PD100, not too sure how it stacks up against the two six speed gearboxes in the vRS but this would also play a part.

Cheers

Thats what I mean - everyone seems to think their cars produce more power than claimed, in which case, the 'improvements' are meaningless anyway.

Yep,

TAXI sign on, 4 large passengers, a boot full of luggage, and i was still being held up. :P

If you can't outrun a Taxi........

Optimistic rollers I'd say.

Standard Furby vRS - 129-133 bhp apparently. May be a couple more with PD160 intake & Green Filter, but not a lot.

Must admit I'd expect the Octy to drive away if the actual power was very similar (< 5bhp diff), esp. at higher speeds. No surprise then :D

I beat a Punto in Southend last saturday.

Yay!
