Headlight washer cover

Recommended Posts

I have lost one of the covers of the headlight washers on my 2009 Elegance, after a dive bomb attack by a suicidal bird on the motorway. Can anybody tell me how to fit a replacement? I thought I'd get an idea by easing off the other cover to take a look, but now I wish I hadn't, since the cover itself is off, but I can't see an easy way of clipping it back on to the gimbal mount. All hints and tips gratefully received.

The facelifted Superb seems to have chrome covers on the headlight washers. Anybody know if these fit the earlier models? This would avoid the hassle of painting the replacement cover.

To refit the removed one, pull out the washer unit by hand - it won't be easy and it will spring back, so use some mole grips (wrapped!) or something to keep it out. (If you have a hefty pair of circlip pliers or similar to hook under the pipe, that might save the skin on your fingers when pulling it out, too.) The cover can then be clipped on quite easily, but make sure you get it the right way round or it will just pop off again when you let the washer pipe return. I don't know about the FL covers, I'm afraid.

Many thanks for that advice, Devon Wanderer. If it's some applied brute force to get the washer unit pulled out, I'm sure I'll cope. I'd been pulling rather gently to avoid damaging the thing. Off to the dealer to discuss replacement parts this week.

Agree, I lost one off my Octavia. Got replacement from dealer, sprayed with Skoda aerosol & lacquer and then just clips back on when pulled out. Yes they do need a good pull!

I was impressed with colour match of official spray paint.

flat-eric, yes got the paint and laquer from my local dealer. I was concerned when paint dried matt, but clear laquer brings it up really glossy.

From memory it was about a tenner.

Bought skoda paint for my Superb and thats a good match. Remember to shake really well before use......and dont spray in this damp weather! :whew:

Just in case anyone is interested, the headlight washer cover is now only supplied in chrome, so of course you have to buy two, but at least you are spared the trouble of painting them.

If like me you have also lost the small cruciform mounting piece that attaches the cover to the washer nozzle, that is supplied as part of the washer nozzle, not the cover, so a new washer nozzle has to purchased as well. Bit annoying, but it's not very expensive.
