Most amount of miles seen to a tank!

Featured Replies

You do have a DV, it's actually a recirculating valve, & you'll find it on the air intake pipe near the MAF.

  • 1.8T is seriously undertuned in OEM form, & I can't imagine having a VAG 1.8t without remapping it. Totally transforms them, & a very big difference in performance.

Found it, thanks :)   Will I need a new one mate as my car has done 128k. If so is there any benefit in getting a Forge or should I just stick to OEM or can I even clean my one?

For stage 1 the OEM one is fine, & only about £25 from TPS or main dealer. Forge 007p is more reliable & prettier but only really needed if going for big turbo setups. A lot of people seem to rate the Compbrake DV which is half the price of the Forge.

Just don't go for a dump to atmosphere BOV the VAG 1.8T's don't like them at all.

I'd be cautious of posting anything like that on a public forum Dude.

nothing anyone can do unless footage of speedo/dash is posted.had advice ages ago from a mate that's a traffic copper in Cardiff.

and brickhouse have seen 155 on the clock at predannack airfield when down at a tarmac rally.these have a good top speed that's why the police have used them as unmarked cars.

No benefit in upgrading the DV unless yours is faulty & they require servicing.

My VRS is stock and I average between 340-360 a tank .My best is on trip to scotland which was 440 .

That's very impressive.  Has yours been mapped and what fuel do you run her on?

Liverpool-Lad.....I was thinking about buying another standard DV as my car has done 128k with no signs of the DV ever being changed so thought it was best I put a new one on if I am thinking about getting here mapped as I was everything to be working just right :)

biggest thing for economy on these is making sure all the boost and vac lines are good as these mess with fueling.  Remapping brings the best out of the engine in terms of power and also economy.  The standard map is a compromise to make sure that VAG meets the various emissions rules for X number of countries. So even a generic stage 1 map SHOULD improve things all round (as long as the car is all good, otherwise the map tends to show up the weak bits quite well :D)

Its unmapped on 71k .Most of the time I use v-power.

Mild custom remap 212Bhp 335Nm

Have seen 440 a few times but most of the time I can't behave myself properly through the whole tank and end up around 350 until the light comes on. I find the time that the SAI is on uses **** loads of petrol in mine, can't get it above 20mpg for the first few minutes of driving unless the car is already warm. So short journey mpg is really crap.

On journeys of around 100+ miles I can keep the computer reading 50mpg driving like a nun.

Something wrong there SAI should only be on for about 45 secs, 60 secs tops.

Have you checked what the CTS is reading in VCDS?

mine is on for just over a minute on cold start. It does actually come on when warming up if I pull up at traffic lights or a junction sometimes.

What should the CTS be reading? and what channel is it on?

The temp needle is always fairly predictable, or is that a different sensor?

Edited by michael1

Just did a check there.

Coolant temp @ start 27 degrees

SAI ran for ~ 1 minute

left car idle temperature rose steadily and pump came back on at 51 degrees celsius.

Is that the reading from the CTS?

Sounds about right, 27 is ambient today, it should go up to 87, then fluctuate up and down between 87 and 110, mine hit about 100 yesterday but thats only when sat still with engine running

For the past 21 years I have only ever owned the likes of 205 GTI's, MK2 Golf GTI's, Ren 5 GT Turbo's etc so never had a car with air-con.......Been told with the air-con on the car will use a lot more fuel and sap some engine power, how true is this?

Definitely notice the air con thing.

It makes my 12 mile run to work around 29mpg instead of 40mpg on the trip computer. Big difference on mine anyway.

Windows down for me, if they feel like working on the day!

It shouldn't really go over 90ish C. Once it's up to 88ish stat & fans should be keeping it stable. sounds like you may have an issue there Dave. Never seen any of my VAG cars ever go over 93c regardless of hot conditions.

Modern AC shouldn't use much more fuel or sap power. Makes no noticeable difference on my Audi whether its on or off.

Yeah maybe lol, somethings not right with mine thats for sure.

Everything I have read indicates that 110 is maximum operating temp but it should only ever hit that in really hot countries.

The temp sensor is one thing I have not changed !!!

Might be worth a shot for £30

Certainly 20 yrs ago AC would lose you a good 10% of your power & at least that in fuel consumption.

It was never noticeable on mine until this last week. Mind you it has been hard at it all day.

I've noticed the the idle vac reading is up to about -19 Hg with the ac on, and the normal -26 when off, so I'm guessing it's using more fuel at the same time.

My MPG is all over the place anyway at the moment so I can't really tell lol

Crikey Dave if you've got a black CTS get it out dude. As i'm sure you already know genuine green one only.
