Hi all.

This is my first post so would like to start by saying Hi.

I am looking into buying a Octavia vRS on an 07 plate or just above very soon but have a few questions before buying and from past experience forums are the best place to ask these :), so I better get started.

1, I have noticed all the vRS's I have been looking at do not have cruise control fitted.  Are you able to fit these? and are there people on the forum who would offer this service?

2, Parking sensors.  Which would you recommend? also does anyone fit these?

3, I will be looking into changing the stereo to a satnav/ Bluetooth all in one system.  Has anyone done this or recommend any?

Many thanks all

Tom.

A lot of the early ones do lack cruise but from my research its a matter of buying the right indicator stalk, fitting it and coding it into the ecu via vcds.

parking sensors are a god send imo. Never had them before the vrs but the back end is quite high so visibility of small posts can be iffy. Certainly worth getting them if they arent fitted imo

Hi Tom, welcome!

Yes, cruise control can be retrofitted. You need a new indicator stalk and some coding done via a member with VCDS (diagnostics software) on a latop and a cable to plug it into the car. Some dealers will do this for you also - but at a cost.

Again rear parking sensors are a dealer fit, however it is possible to source kits on eBay and fit them yourself.

The integrated sat nav is called Columbus, this can be retrofitted too, lots of threads on here on how to do this but the Columbus head units are expensive, even second hand ones. If you want Bluetooth too then there are lots of aftermarket headunits to choose from.

Agree with all the above...

Being an '07 plate you may need a newer CAN gateway controller to avoid battery drain caused by the Columbus and to get the parking sensor display on the Columbus.

It's about £60-80 for one on this forum.

Front and rear parking sensors are great and can be retrofitted in under two days by a confident novice engineer (I did mine).

Cruise control may need a new steering controller (£60-100), but you are more likely to have a compatible one fitted already.

Once you've git the car find a Briskodian local to you with VCDS and get them to do a scan of the car. This will show you what controllers are fitted and we can advise further with that information.

While they are plugged in to your car they can make a few changes such as tear drop wiping, dual rear fogs, etc.

hi, would a Columbus fit my 56 Octavia estate please anyone???? ( not that I can afford one looking on flea bay!!!)

if not, can anyone recommend a stereo that will fit my car, that has a USB port on it for an MP3 player. I know I can plug into the AUX but I cant use the MFSW to control it if I do that. think what ive said is right!! LOL!!

A columbus will fit in your car, but as mentioned you'll almost certainly need a new CAN gateway controller as well.

You could consider a Bolero instead. They are a lot cheaper and look much better than, say a stream. However you'll also need a new CAN gateway. Even then there are reports of compatability problems with the bolero ie backlighting not working properly and you'll loose the parking sensor display too (unless you upgrade the parking sensors).
