So i cant get insured on a vrs, yet (im 22) and it looks like my shocks have gone.

Is it worth uprating them to a vrs set or similar i want something a little better than the standard set up, not to fussed about it being lowered just a slightly stiffer ride would suit me.

Will the VRS set fit mine?

If not does anyone know of any decent packages out there either used or new to go for?

Aaron

The standard shocks are ok, it's the standard springs that are too soft really.

If your shocks have gone then you need to change the lot if you want improvements, get an Eibach pro-spring kit and some decent quality gas replacement shocks. You also need to look at your console bushes as these really ruin the handling unless they're brand new or uprated.

Just had the console bushes done, I think shocks could be salvageable it may just have been my car or me seeing it wrong, ill look up that spring kit now thanks ! Im assuming it would be a waste to try and fit vrs setups on it??

Front springs may make the front sit high. Vrs dampers will work fine. Just mate the to some eibach springs. If you want more then koni sport or bilstein b8 dampers.

I used Eibach pro springs all round and Bilsteins on the front and I'm perfectly happy, firm but not crashy.

Mind you I'm on the standard steel wheels with 185/60/14's because it was horribly crashy on the 16's, but then I live in the countryside where the roads are narrow, bendy and bumpy, it's not for posing in McDonalds car park after all.

I'd like to try some 15's on it since I think that might be a good compromise between ride and handling.

So if I got the vrs springs and shocks they would fit but would be rather firm? Due to the weight difference in the engine. Its ok I have just seen some ended on ebay CHEAP, they have done 90k so replacement bushes are a must and it should be ok right? If not then ill look into the eibach setup !

If I have one shock thats not responding well could it cause the car to pull? Had console bushes replaced this month and tracking is perfect ?

Thanks guys

Aaron

At 90k they'll be knackered!

Also will sit on stilts due to engine weighting difference

Get some apex lowering springs £95 and some new standard 1.4 shocks

Aaron, I'm going to be gentle about this, using secondhand shock absorbers is like using secondhand brake pads, just don't do it, especially when they're from a different model and wholly unsuitable.

You came here for good advice and you're getting it but you're just not listening.

Springs and shocks must be replaced as a PAIR, therefore you need a new pair of front shocks, since the springs have to be removed to replace them now is a good time to replace the springs since labour is expensive for doing the same job twice, the rear springs are an easy DIY job.

Sorry for the misunderstanding I did not realise they would not fit at all, and im afraid you will have to bear with me it takes a while for me to comprehend what u have said as I am autistic.

With regards to what you said last night you said the rear springs are easy, is the front not something to attempt as an amateur?

Thank you very much for your help everyone I have spotted some eibach kits online for under 200 so this week when I get paid I will give a good old hunt round for them!!

Not really.

Good stuff, ill have a go at the back and book in for the front. On a seperate note has anyone tried those air con service sprays? From what I gather it removes all of the excess bacteria on the compressor and all u needto do then is topup the refrigerant level

What sort of quotes are you getting on a vrs? I am 22 and my quotes are around 700-1000, I think that's pretty reasonable!
