electrical problem...

Featured Replies

My speedo has stopped working, my fuel level indicator goes down when I put my foot down and when I lift off the car jolts... Only change I've made is putting a resistor in place of the sai...

Don't get it as ive replaced it with a resistor before and it never did that....

Sound like you got a problem with the fuel system - failing pump or its wiring maybe

How can that have happened over night? Don't get it as the car was fine.... How would that stop the speedo working?

You say the fuel indicator goes down, which is operated by the float on the back of the fuel pump/swirlpot unit - as I understand it its a pretty simple basic setup

The jolt you mention could well be the fuel pump responsing slowing, or not pushing through enough fuel

The fuelpump is easy to get to, so an easy starting point to checkout

Under the rear passenger seat right?

Yep

Lots of pics of the swirlpot unit in this thread

Think Bowders1 did a thread about replacing the pump, which also had lots of helpful pics and info

what ever it is it keeps blowing fuse 7... which is a 10a mini fuse... replaced, worked, blew....

Don't want to put a bigger fuse in because surely it's more important to find out what's happening first...

Fused 7: Reserving lights?

fixed it.... i'd gone through the blue and black wire in the boot

fixed it.... i'd gone through the blue and black wire in the boot

That wire is the reversing light supply after the switch so if the wire is grounded it would blow the fuse when engaging reverse. So, had you damaged other wires too or do you still still have the other faults?

  • Author

Nope it was literally that one wire that was causing all those faults
