Rear side airbags & Crew Protection Assistant

Featured Replies

Dear all

Does anyone know if the above options are suitable with children's car seats?

Can they be turned off/on like a front passenger airbag?

Cheers

D

Due to product safety legislation you'd be better getting a definite answer from your Skoda dealer rather than from here - email them so you get an answer in writing!

Makes sense, aye.

They can't be turned off and are suitable with child seats, so I was told.

I have a family and spec rear airbags to every car if I can.

The side airbag also covers the window area which is good for flying glass etc...

Thanks gents.  I've asked SkodaUK and will post their reply on here when it comes.

I'm sure it'll be fine, but better to be safe than sorry with this kind of thing.  It'd be terrible to spec safety features for the little ones only to put them at greater risk!

As Richard mentions, the system can't be turned off, BUT can be adjusted with a sensitivity setting for those who want to give the car some beans.

Not entirely sure how the sensitivity setting works but I would assume that if you are a fan of some sideways action you wouldn't want the belts clamping at your chest every time you wanted a little play so can control it accordingly <--- my assumption only.

Have tested this when we were at Millbrook, and it definitely keeps you in your place, the belt was like a vice around you, but then you'd want that should the worst occur.

Just got a call back from SkodaUK.  No problem with the airbags when you have child seats.

They can't be turned off..

If you think about it, all child safety seats (for smaller kids) are heavily protected from side impacts. The one we have even has a crumple zone to the side (no kidding!). By the time they can get out of those and just use a regular booster seat, they're large enough to use the normal seat-belt and be protected by an airbag just like an adult. No need to turn the airbags off. It's not the same thing as having a rear-facing seat in the front passenger seat.
